How long will it take Whitacre to move GM headquarters to Texas? |

He moved Southwestern Bell, Pacific Telesis, Ameritech, Bell South, and AT&T headquarters there.
Well, actually he moved SWB from St Louis to San Antonio, and then acquired the rest.
It might be good for GM -- a lot of the dead wood wouldn't make the move.

2. It's hard to imagine Whitacre working in the Ren Center for longer than he has to |
|
I'd bet he opens up a branch corporate office in Texas and either the top execs will join him there or they'll spend a lot of time in the air.

4. It's also hard to imagine a cell phone exec having any clue as to how to run an auto co. nt |

5. He's more of a wireline guy |
|
He did manage communication companies through the technology transitions from analog to digital, and from twisted pair/coax/microwave to fiber optic / wireless.
Also the restructuring of the industry due to the Bell System breakup, the cable company competition, the wireless competition, and the internet.
Plus, he seems to know about mergers and acquisitions.
If he sticks around GM will wind up looking very different.

6. So, as I said...ZERO manufacturing experience. Just another "money man"/political insider. nt |

3. Doubt Whitacre will be around in a year. He is seemingly clueless as to the auto industry. nt |
