The kind of "gay marriage" I would like to end |
|
Is the Larry Craig kind -- I actually had a case of this in my family, my now 75 year old aunt, who was from an extremely sheltered, rural environment married at 16 and had a hell of a bad time with it. Her husband travelled for work and from the beginning she felt that he was not really interested in her. Of course her self-esteem took a beating and she thought something was wrong with her, etc. Years later a friend told her the truth. He was living a double life and had a boyfriend in the neighboring state, where his job took him frequently.
Does anybody really think THAT was "the good old days?" Let's just stop punishing people for their sexual orientation, the lies destroy a lot of lives and not just those of gay people.

1. I'm with you! That's a sad story... |
|
Once saw an Oprah show about families destroyed by that kind of marriage.

2. I used to get mad at Bishop Robinson not for being gay but for getting |
|
married, having a family, then announcing to his wife and the world that he was gay and leaving. Now I understand how many people were confused and guilty about their feelings and forced themselves into a straight mold. I think it's important for children to see gay and lesbian couples so that they have a model to follow if that's their path.

4. I think the fundies don't want any examples of loving/committed gay couples |
|
They really want people to think that such a thing doesn't exist, but I've seen it for myself so I know they are wrong.

No one should be forced to hide or put on some sort of elaborate charade because of who they are. It sickens me to know how many are suffering under our laws in supposedly the 'greatest nation' in the world. Cripes. I understand it's one step at a time, but seriously, how much longer are our friends, loved ones and fellow Americans supposed to wait for equal rights? So darn frustrating and I'm not even involved in a personal way, other than my support efforts. I can only imagine the heartbreak and betrayal of those who ARE involved personally.

No one in this country should be shamed into something that makes them miserable.

6. It is everyone just trying to fit |
|
the mold that they think society has for them. If everyone could just let others live their lives. The only thing that one should consider is, is it really hurting someone.

7. Do they really want a 100% heterosexual world? |
|
Such a world has never existed and will never exist; it sounds crazy when you think about it, what the hell is a "gay agenda' other than just wanting to be able to live your life without being hassled?
