"I recoil with horror
at the ferociousness of man. Will nations never devise a more rational umpire of differences than force? Are there no means of coercing injustice more gratifying to our nature than a waste of the blood of thousands and of the labor of millions of our fellow creatures?"

~Thomas Jefferson

2. Nothing wrong with war, as long as the right people get killed.
If the US army invaded Wall Street I would totally enlist.

6. And of course agitated
for a war of choice against Britain. The right thing to do, but he was hardly a pacifist.

5. Unlikely to change
when it comes down to it nothing trumps overwhelming force.

Now if you could organize an independent, unbiased group to wield that force and preside over all nations then a peace could be enforced.

Of course knowing human nature that would immediately result in a despotism with no escape, so that's less than ideal.
