1. well, there go...
Unfortunately, some people really seem eager to watch this World die.

Politics aside, this is a moment of truth.... we will all look back and ask, why wasn't anything done about Global Warming. Who tried and who didn't, and worse of all, who worked AGAINST the people who were trying to save us all. You have to be a mad man to not take this serious.

Profit before everything!!!! If that isn't fanatical, I don't know what is.

8. Actually, that's a very confusing map
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 07:38 PM by muriel_volestrangler
It mixes the position in the 'league' of emitters, and the amount emitted. For a very few countries (eg China) it shows both - 1 and 6,018. For some (eg Brazil) it just shows the amount - 377. And for some (eg Argentina and Venezuela) it just shows the position (28 and 29 - but a bigger circle than the 50 and 51 of their neighbours).

So I think an unrec for it seems reasonable. I think I've seen it before, in The Guardian (or maybe The Times), and I thought it was crappy then, too.

9. Those are fair criticisms that escaped my poor attention to detail.

3. So, in 2008 we raised atmosphereic CO2 by about 0.00051%
Assuming, of course, no intake of CO2 by our environment (worst case).

Total Atmosperic Mass: 5,675,000,000,000,000 tons (about 5.7 quadrillion tons)
Approx CO2 Mass (.0387%): 2,196,000,000,000 tons (about 2.2 trillion tons)
2008 World CO2 Emmisions: 29,195,000,000 tons (about 29.2 billion tons)

Are these "World Carbon Dioxide Emissions" all cosidered industrial man-made?
Or does this figure include natural emmisinos as well?

6. We raised atmospheric CO2 by about 1 percent.
20 billion out of 2 trillion would be about 1%.

No considering increasing the amount of CO2 1% every year.

7. It is like smoking deaths
You smoke and you died? The cause was smoking related.

Stats go up, people eat it up, rally for change and restrictions.
