"Following a now-familiar pattern," as the homepage at Yahoo Finance currently says. Well, doesn't that say it all right there: A strong dollar should be good for America, but it's "bad" for companies who increasingly are depending upon foreign business because Americans no longer can afford and/or want to buy their stuff: "A weaker dollar makes commodities cheaper for foreign buyers and boosts profits at U.S. companies that do business overseas."

Thus reinforcing the notion that, these days, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is a contrary indicator to most lower- and middle-class Americans' economic well-being.
