Spanish fan calls police over saxophone band who were just not jazzy enough

Festival-goer claims it was 'psychologically inadvisable' for him to hear Larry Ochs Sax and Drumming Core perform

Jazzman Larry Ochs has seen many things during 40 years playing his saxophone around the world but, until this week, nobody had ever called the police on him.

That changed on Monday night however, when's Spain's pistol-carrying Civil Guard police force descended on the Sigüenza Jazz festival to investigate allegations that Ochs's music was not, well, jazz.

Police decided to investigate after an angry jazz buff complained that the Larry Ochs Sax and Drumming Core group was on the wrong side of a line dividing jazz from contemporary music.

They are hardcore, and not known for their sense of humor. But I can't imagine them caring about MUSIC GENRE one way or the other. I imagine on some level they thought :wtf: - even as they carried out an investigation.

13. The "Guardia" (as we called them in shorthand, w/ a Spanish pronunciation)

...were nowhere to be found when we had neighbors across the street partying until sunrise, with a LIVE band playing Guy Lombardo.

My dad exacted his revenge. A few hours later when the partiers had crashed for the morning, he cranked up the lawn mower. We had a decent-sized yard.

I take back part of what I said. The Guardia are nasty sonsofbitches (many Franco loyalists still fill their ranks), and would probably crack down on punk or metal. But they were not my idea of the "jazz police".

I love jazz though. Although admittedly I am not fond of Guy Lombardo, especially at 6AM.

They haven't changed much since they were Franco's right arm:



Unless of course, you think Franco was a swell guy. Somehow, someone who loves the idea of shutting down a music venue strikes me as a person who might.
