Americans are just too stupid for justice
If you want social and economic justice like the kind we call for here all day, you first need a public smart enough to tell the difference between justice and injustice and people smart enough to want to actually do something about it.

We don't have that. We live in a nation full of self-indulgent morons -morons who may feel like they are being fleeced, but are too stupid to take a minute to figure out who it is really screwing them when it's so much easier to let the man on TV tell them who to be angry at.

People don't bother to vote and simultaneously complain that the politicians don't look out for them. Other's get fed up and swear not to vote again and think that is improving things somehow.

We Liberals -the people who can both spell and have a conscience, we are outnumbered and if that weren't enough, we spend more time fighting each other over trivialities than we spend fighting our real enemies and are always so happy to turn on each other in an instant.

the morons vote -en masse. They vote based on personality, stupid wedge issues that don't even directly effect them, they vote out of fear, because they are always being fed fear by the media and never question the authority of the media, just assume that what they are hearing is the truth.

and who the morons vote for are corporate thugs, because the corporate thugs don't waste their time trying to tell the unwashed mobs the hard truths they don't want to hear. No, the corporate thugs tell them what they want to hear. "The answers are easy. I'm just like you. The people who disagree with you are liars and don't love America. There are bad people that it's OK for you to hate" -and these corporate thugs don't really give a shit about what party they are in, they join whatever party has stronger registration in the district they want to run in.

In a Democracy, the people get the government they deserve. And in a country full of stupid, self-indulgent cattle, you get shitty government.

This why the constant criticism of Obama for not doing more get on my nerves. What is he supposed to do? He's got to pass most things through Congress, which the idiotic general public has loaded with corporate thugs. His enemies -and our enemies- have all the money in the world to stop anything positive he tries to do -why? because we keep buying their shit, we keep giving them money because we are so fucking insecure we can't go without our little status symbols -our 10 different brands of soap, deodorant, hair care products and overpriced clothes sewn by child slaves in china, that car that was 6-7 grand more than what we needed to spend because everyone needs a cool car, all those years we spent driving around in those big stupid suburbans because they gave us an ILLUSION of safety and all the other stupid things that we don't need but that we insist on having so that we can "keep up with the Jones's" -did any of that shit do anything for us other than line the pockets of the very people who wish to enslave us? But we keep doing it, just like junkies. We have no one to blame but ourselves.

you may say I'm a pessimist or defeatist -but not about myself. I have hope for myself and my ability to navigate the gauntlet of injustice called the American Dream. I just don't expect the mob to wise up anytime soon, and until they do, we Liberals are going to be putting up with a lot of annoying compromises forced on us by the very corruption most average folks say they detest and yet are so glad to protect with their own stupidity.

2. No, I'm not willing to blame average Americans for this mess. Our representatives
have slowly stacked the political system until it's one large BEASTIE with the same goals: The enrich large corporations and the upper 1% of Americans.

Sure, the Democrats throw us more scraps in the process of "the drama," but the goal remains the same.

11. Well, there *is* a major problem - the thing is, when explained, those same people dismiss fact as..
"conspiracy theory," which then allows them to remain safely and smugly in denial.

13. no, he doesn't get off the hook either.
because he has been way too mushy middle and has done a lot things I don't agree with at all. I just think it's too easy to project all the failure on him and make him the scape goat. We did the same thing with Bush and assumed if we just got rid of him things would be fine, but it didn't turn out that way did it?

but we don't get off that easily. We all got our names on this. Most people are still buying into the two party lie and assuming anyone who calls themselves a Dem has Liberal values, when they obviously don't and a third of the country voting for Repugs out of pure xenophobia and fear of change.

It's not like assholes like Lierberman or Nelson just magically appeared in Congress -the voters put them there. The voters could have voted for someone who wasn't a piece of shit, and we could have had HCR months ago.

7. Obama's latest polling is down, and it must be the fault of the American people,
since it surely has nothing to do with the president's own actions, which are above reproach, as befits someone so dreamy.

17. well, it was the general electorate that was polled.
for me it's more watching the numbers break down concerning HCR. The people now say they don't want reform? They are only worried about keeping their own insurance and fuck the poor people? no thought to how badly deteriorated the situation is, "let's just ignore it because we don't feel like dealing with it."

that shit drives me nuts.

15. yes!
we need to understand how badly the deck is stacked against us. The corporations not only have all the money, they also have an army of uneducated slobs constantly enriching them and voting for their toadies.

20. It's easier to name call than to answer the topic at hand
I think it's pretty obvious that a large segment of the population is pretty fucking stupid. If you look at the number of votes Bush drew in 2000 and 2004, there is a solid group of mouth breathers out there.

They are the ones easily drawn by the messages of Corporations. So it's the job of progressives to, instead of waring with each other, to fight the influences that are killing thousands of people every year. War, Health Care, Women's rights, etc.

22. I take umbrage with your hyperbole.
Americans aren't stupid, they are poorly educated.

In addition, those trivialities we fight over and those wedge issues we insist upon are the core values of being a liberal! Those issues are what drew a lot of people into the Democratic party, which apparently is no longer fighting for those values but only giving lip service to them.

I'm not compromising on those values anymore.
