Morphing the GOP into the FAT Party |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 07:09 PM by Fly by night
The party of (F)ear, (A)dultery and (T)heft.
I can picture the logo as the traditional elephant, but with a belly so HUGH that its feet don't reach the floor.
Of course, the name-change comes with an already installed national spokes-blob, who even has his own radio show.
What say ye?

I think it's a great image to promote. The acronym needs work, though...

20. I still like "Greedy Old Plutocrats" |
|
Keeps the GOP, re-makes the image. But, I love the image of the Elephant with a belly so large its legs can't reach the ground - it's a metaphor for so much - as in their greed makes it impossible for them to move forward. Or their greed causes them to lose their footing, or... well, something like that.

3. Well, but a lot of perfectly nice, decent people are overweight (even very overweight), so I |
|
am not really comfortable with using "fat" as a pejorative like that. (I am carrying a bit of extra poundage myself, I must admit.)

5. I hear you, though I think "fat" has so many meanings that it would be a shame to lose its use here |
|
I do hear you -- and I'd love reactions of others to this issue.
Thanks for raising it.

14. Meh. Your symbolism needs work. |
|
A fat elephant doesn't make me think of fear, adultery and theft. Fear, adultery and theft are much better things to attack the GOP for than "fat."

But I heard (upthread) the concerns about the imagery and I don't want to insult anyone in our midst. The concept just gave me a chuckle when another left-neck friend of mine suggested it.

I guess I could have called it the "CORPULENT" party, but I don't have time to think of the words to fit that acronym (and, of course, that might also offend you, if you know what the word means.)
What I was stigmitizing was fear, adultery and theft -- not overweight people. (I don't hate or want to ridicule myself, after all.)

18. I would change the "A" to Avarice. |
|
I have strong personal opinions about Adultery, but I would not necessarily write off a politician or other leader for that flaw in their personality or character as it were. If so then Kennedy, FDR, Martin Luther King Jr., and others would be pariahs, not celebrated leaders. As much as I have a personal dislike of the behavior of being unfaithful to a spouse or partner, what really pisses me off about Republicans is not that they succumb to infidelity, but that they are complete hypocrites who condemn others for behaviors in which they engage. The infidelity is personal, but the hypocrisy is social.
Anyway, the "A" for Avarice seems to fit them better. Republicans are the party of Greed. They are the party of the corporation. They have followed the same policies that lead us to all of the Depressions and Recessions we have had in our history. They preach that enriching the few will somehow give everyone a better life. They keep preaching that crap despite being shown repeatedly that it is not true. They appeal to the greed of their followers and fool them into thinking that they can join the ranks of the wealthy so that they vote against their self interests.
That is why I say Avarice fits.

21. (F)ear, (A)varice and (T)ea-bags!! |
|
I likes it.
And I agree that they are also the party of greed, hypocrisy and blasphemy at a scale that any belief system should withdraw from. As the bumper-sticker I saw the other day said:
"Jesus, please protect me from some of your followers."
