The Festival of Lights starts tonight

remember, the reason for this very small Jewish Holiday is freedom... freedom from oppression, in that case Greek, and a tiny little miracle. You see oil needs to be consecrated to burn in the Temple, and there was just enough for a day, and it takes eight to make it. Well I'll be darned, it lasted all eight.

So enjoy the latkes (potato cakes) and playing with your top. Me, will make them tomorrow for lunch, with some eggs and of course cream and apple sauce.

Ah the holidays, and how frustrating we sometimes can be, when we know how small of a holiday this truly is.

No Hanukkah Tree (though one of these years I will surrender and get A tree for the parrots, just not an evergreen, but a play one for the birds), and no Hanukkah Harry, or I guess Hanukkah Socks... and does Hanukkah Harry keep a list and put lumps of coal?

And I wonder, does a certain reindeer come over to fly the sleigh? (Yes they have tried to get Rudolph to help Hanukkah Harry)

6. On a funny story

one of the friends in Hawaii had a Macaw. They got a tree, a regular Christmas tree... and forgot to put the feathered friend in her cage for the night. It was a small tree, and it became even smaller kindling...

Thankfully it was not decorated.

Bird was all sticky form the sap, and not in a good mood.

when my kits were small, I made sure the tree stand was VERY sturdy, and only used non-breakable ornaments. kits will be kits, and love to climb.

bird was so sticky... and that is not a beak you want to be close when in a bad mood.

But she needed a bath, an intense bath. She smelled of pine for a month. Thankfully she did not get sick from it.

I am sure Kittens can be fun too.

7. Oh absolutely

I got lazy this year, got shredded potatoes... you know usual crap for breakfast ones... and will use those.

I do make them ONCE a year.

12. they are messy to make.

i was raised catholic and years ago you couldn't eat meat on friday. my mom or grandmother made them. they called them potato pancakes.

we buy them frozen in the grocery store. a few minutes in the toaster oven and there done.

and I grew up in a Catholic Country... so during Lent friday was not a meat day, out of respect for the people in the household who observe Lent.

Now already made... hmmm would save me some cleanup time after that.
