Do Obama and Duncan approve of what is happening to David Pakter?
Edited on Sun Dec-13-09 08:55 PM by Smarmie Doofus
Pakter's a 37-year veteran NYC teacher. He was NYC Teacher of the Year in 1997.

Obama and Duncan say that NYC schools chancellor Joel Klein is a model for implementing what they and the media insist on calling call "school reform".

Duncan is the Secretary of Education. Obama, as you are aware, is currently POTUS.

Pakter... who has been in and out of the "rubber room" ( "school reform"-inspired teacher detention pens primarily used to confine whistle-blowers and teachers who annoyed someone in the educational bureaucracy )over the last 6 years, gives every indication of having acquitted himself in an exemplary fashion over the course of his professional life... for thirty seven years.

Can Klein or Duncan say the same thing? Can Obama?

Read:

>>>.....The beginning of his downfall, he claims, was a three-page letter he sent to Schools Chancellor Joel Klein in October 2003 saying that the civil rights of his students were being violated. “Klein didn’t want to hear it, Pakter recalled. “So, instead of investigating the school, the DOE started investigating me and tried to make me sound like a lunatic after 37 years of teaching.”>>>

Be sure to scroll down to Pakter's commentary at the bottom and follow the links. It's quite a story.

1. Kicked
and recommended. This is incredible - and not in a good way. I hope Pakter and the other teachers can prevail.

10. We're not going to prevail with the WH and the administration....
... on the other side. They LIKE rubber rooms. They BELIEVE ... or claim they do... that unionism is the principal problem with public education in USA today.

'Course... none of them: Obama, Duncan, Klein have ever worked in a public school.

Duncan and Obama have never even ATTENDED a public school.

12. I agree. Klein has been an unmitigated disaster
to the NYC public schools. We needed a skilled administrator, not a prosecutor. What the hell was Bloomberg Thinking? :grr:

And Bloomberg keeps selling off chunks of the city to his friends at bargain prices, and 'everyone' things this is wonderful! What a fucking outrage! :grr:

(By 'everyone', of course I meaning everyone important enough for the media to bother acknowledging their existence, or wealthy enough to seem to matter . The poor people people who will be harmed by these sales of their neighborhoods to developers are seemingly invisible and mute in public debates and discussions.) :(

14. Of course they do.
Teachers are a dime a dozen, and as long as that's the case, school districts will continue to treat teachers like shit.
