It is the only thing keeping the axe from coming down...

It's Rove's last ace in the hole...

4. It struck while finally watching Bush's Brain
There was a speech by Rove in that documentary where he discussed using the Iraq war as a political tool.

It's Bush's last chip, he isn't going to cash it in.

5. Rove is playing the end game with this... playing with people's lives now...
solely for the Bush legacy... and perhaps his own...

6. It also is keeping his poll numbers 'artificially' high
Imagine what they would be after losing the Repug War Hawks because of announcing the end of a lost war...

8. Our "support the troops" culture and fear of "losing" make deployed troops valuable political tools
I've often asked people who support the troops "no matter what" what would stop a president from dropping them off in any hostile place he or she wished, justifying any deaths with the old rag "We must not disgrace the lives lost by failing to complete their mission," etc.

I always knew it was about the 'war'... I understood how they have used it as a political device...

But now, it's the ONLY thing they have left... the ONLY thing... and their vanity and arrogance won't let them stop...

:(

10. That's a very clever observation, JCMach1.
I've never seen it quite like this. It may not save them, though.

12. He needed it to get a second term, too.
I know several people who weren't what you'd call "Bush supporters," but who voted for him anyway back in 2004 because they didn't want to change horses mid-stream (or whatever the phrase is...you get the idea). :grr: Disgusting, really. The man has no conscience - otherwise he'd at least feel a little guilty about getting thousands of our finest killed just so he can play war president. :grr: Sick &%$@.

14. The *Iran* war is to avoid impeachment. The Iraq....
... war was to win a second term.

15. He Needed 9/11 to Avoid Impeachment Too
If 9/11 had not happened, the investigations in Congress into the stolen 2000 election would have gone forward.
So would investigations into Cheney, Halliburton and the "Energy Task Force".
So would lots of other investigations.

They would have been impeached long ago if it weren't for 9/11.
