I warned all of you.

If the Finance Committee passes this bill and sends it to the floor, it will give Harry Reid the cover he needs to take all the real reforms out of the Kennedy bill from the HELP committee. The bill that comes up for a floor vote will have:

* No real public option, although he'll claim Cantwell's state exchanges are one.

* No cost controls.

* Baucus' horrible individual mandate, with possible criminal penalties as is called for in it.

* No employer mandate.

* No low-income subsidies.

...but you all resisted blocking the Baucus bill. You all played the good little party faithful, insisting that the worst parts of the Baucus bill would be pushed aside.

So, instead of the Kennedy bill giving us a fighting chance of passing reform, we've got the first four of my five prophecies there. Odds are the fifth is inevitable, too.

We're now going to be stuck with three incredibly bad likely outcomes: no bill at all out of the Senate, a bad Senate bill and the passable House bill leading to gridlock at conference, or a bill that will make things even worse than they are now.

Pab has been trying to sell this shit for days ... It's close enough to get out of committee

let it go. Start over and Baucus will just fuck us again.

Are you all happy?

1. Definitely should have rallied around the HELP Bill
Was that your position in June, or did you jump on the left wing wagon that attacked it.

4. I was always in favor of the HELP bill
and argued that killing the Baucus mess was the only way we had a fighting chance of passing it.

11. The only chance we had of passing it
Was to rally behind it in June. But nooooo.

There is still time to rally, however. And unless we get really united behind the House bill, like pronto, we are screwn I'm afraid.

10. I fought tooth and nail against the Baucus Bill.
I warned everyone not to pass it. I said to call the Democrats on the committee and demand they kill it then and there, so we could give the HELP bill a fighting chance.

Very few here listened to me.

Beyond that, I don't know what you want anyone to say. Seems a little like tragi-gloating to me. Yeah, it can be fun for a minute, but for some reason you just feel bad afterwards.

16. Ahhh, so you were the one. "You all", meaning every single one.
I doubt it.

Yes, I am happy. I try and not allow outside events and forces over which I have no control determine my happiness.

17. Personally I've been thinking for months that the only really substantive change we're going to get.
Is individual private insurance mandates.

That's what the powers that be truly want.

18. As it is obvious that no one else will say it... I am sorry I wasn't listening.
None of my senators was on the committee, so I'm not sure what good my listening might've done... but I'll say it.

Of course, the reason I wasn't listening was that I was personally "walking off a rage" about the DADT/DOMA/Warren horseshit perpetrated by the Obama administration...

I decided to take a step back, a deep breath... and try to take in the "Chess Game" that was the Obama Administration's "Superior Intellect" (to quote Khan...).

I was wrong to do so... but it was rather instructional to see what happens when one stands back and relies upon faith in the beneficence of a politician, or simply quietly watches as others do so.

Not much of a consolation... but, hey... it's one admission that someone wasn't listening.

(Hmm, come to think of it, it does make me wonder if there might've been others who might've been listening... had they not had to "walk off" their rage over DADT/DOMA/etc. ... theoretically at least, those voices that had walked off the stage might've made some difference- if they (we) hadn't been driven to despair and ennui earlier in the year, maybe? Ohh well, fuck it. :shrug:)

19. Post hoc fallacy
Just because people wanted to remove something awful from a bill doesn't mean the bill will fail to pass because of those people.

20. I don't recall anyone here being in favor of the MaxTax version
and HELP was what hit the floor.

Pick your battles. Most people here are pissed just as you are. I don't mean to be a bitch, but enough of the superiority. You are preaching to the choir. Then and now.

Peace.

21. The real reason for the bill was the MANDATES. Everything else was window-dressing.
I'm at the point where I want no bill at all.

23. What is the point of your post? So, some people are more trusting and hopeful then others

Even when the trust isn't merited....

Many people have been sounding the alarm on this board and across the internet for months.

Don't condescend to people who are facing the harsh realization of what we faced a little earlier. This is harsh shit, and many good people I know believed in this sham reform simply because they couldn't believe the dems would screw us this badly.

We need to give each other a group hug and figure out a new way forward!
