Poll question: Could you stay married to a spouse when 14 (and counting) affairs were revealed? |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-14-09 09:20 PM by Liberal_in_LA
Asking because some are suggesting that Tiger should chuck it in...too much pain for a marrage to withstand. Wondering what DUers think.

I wouldn't put up with that kind of behavior today from current spouse but stayed with first husband for nearly 10 years. He worked with a touring theatre company and had a woman in almost every stop on the tour. That was part of our arrangement that I accepted for years.

40. I don't think she was in it for the money and she'll walk |
|
That's the worst part of all of this. He COULD have found someone who was more interested in the money and the lifestyle than in completely fidelity. Instead, he chose to mislead a young woman who seems to have naively believed that he actually loved her and was committed to marriage and family. There is no way she will turn into a Mrs. Phil Hartman. If she were that unstable, he'd be dead already. She seems to be talking to attorneys. I'm sure she wants to make the transition as easy as possible for her children but divorce isn't easy and it's not pretty. I hope she takes all the time she needs and is getting good advice. Her family seems to be a good support system. I think she and the children would be better off in Sweden. Tiger has enough money to fly there as often as he likes. However, given his proclivities, he probably prefers spending his time elsewhere.

14. "affairs"? That assumes respect. |
|
TW was into sex for the sake of sex. If I were Elin, I would dump his butt, suggest he go for the pron career he so obviously wants and find a real family-oriented man to raise my kids with.
If i didn't have kids, I might think differently, but they deserve better than to be raised by a weekend-warrior and his hooker du-jour on alternate weekends.
Then again, they have the $$$ to let the attorneys work it all out to the best interests of the younguns.

thinks about this?
I don't know what did or did not happen. I DO know that the MSM has engaged in a classic media feeding frenzy and is doing all it can to convince us whe SHOULD care whether this athlete cheated on his wife.
People commit adultery quite frequently. Are we really interested in this particular couple's problems?
Great minds discuss ideas. Mediocre minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.

|
Edited on Mon Dec-14-09 09:47 PM by Hippo_Tron
Remember, Franklin Roosevelt was sleeping with his very attractive mistress rather than his wife yet they stayed married.
I should add that a marriage of companionship and love would be preferable to one of convenience.

38. Not if the circumstances mirrored the Woods situation |
|
Given all of the reports regarding things he has told his MANY mistresses, I would question whether or not he ever entered into the marriage in good faith. He was screwing a porn star during his bachelor party. It looks to me like he was just using her and she was unwittingly part of a con job he was pulling on his sponsors and the public at large. That's fraud. The house is reportedly in her name only. I would have thrown him out and started packing my bags immediately. However, I do think it's possible to overcome infidelity under different circumstances.

But I wouldn't get married in the first place if I wasn't sure that monogamy wasn't the way I wanted to go, and I'd expect the same of my spouse. My husband and I talked that one out years ago, before we got married and we do a regular check in with each other.((Plus we're one of those silly couples who sometimes still act like newlyweds after 20 years)
It's not the infidelity-- the actual sex part-- it's the bullshit, the prolonged lies and the cruelty. No one HAS to get married. No one HAS to stay married. If someone thinks they need multiple partners, they should just fucking say so, and make the cut clean, or work something out. Open marriage or whatever.
I can't stand mean-ass behavior out of people who should know better. It's a fucked up, shitty way to act. How individual couples handle infidelity, is of course, their business.

|
If Tiger was that much of a p*ssyhound, he is not changing. He'll just go on the down-low
because she can't be with him 100% of the time. She won't be raising the kidlets, the nannies
and housekeepers will. Everyone says she should just divorce him and then what? She was a
nanny. She may be a rich divorcee but what will be her identity? If she stays she is
Mrs. Tiger Woods, married to one of the most famous men on the planet. Nothing to see here.

46. How does a person really not know BEFORE they get married about the character of their partner? |
|
For a person to run astray 14 or more times is a chronic character flaw (unless an open marriage was agreed upon in advance). This person has and will always be unfaithful. So, my question is, how does a partner manage to block that out and not see it? There are ALWAYS telltale signs when someone is chronically unfaithful. A person may not want to wake up and see them, but they are there nonetheless. So how, and more importantly, WHY would a person block that out and not see the obvious?

48. Maybe I might like the life style money can buy, but the only other reason |
|
I would stay besides for the children is if it became an open marriage. I mean I would want my own separate living spaces. There would be no more sex. I would reserve the right to date other men and he could do what he likes as long as neither of us brings it home or are indiscreet. I think it's how rich Europeans handled these situations in the past especially in countries where there was no divorce, so they had to evolve a different way of dealing with it. I must say, it did keep the family intact, the children with both parents and I suppose the money stayed in the family.
