Afghanistan Police Force Suffers Bloodiest Day
Source: ITN

In one of the bloodiest days for the Afghan police force, fifteen officers have been attacked and killed.

Eight policemen died when insurgents targeted their checkpoint shortly after midnight in the relatively secure northern Baghlan province.

Hours later, three policemen turned on their own colleagues, shooting dead seven members of the force in the restive southern province of Helmand.

The Baghlan incident was the worst for the police in the province since US-led forces overthrew the Taliban government from power in 2001.

In Helmand it was not immediately clear if the three policemen who killed their seven colleagues were Taliban infiltrators or wanted to defect to the Islamist group.
