Complaining About Lieberman's Actions Yesterday & Not Supporting Sanders Today= Reactionary Screamer |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 10:18 AM by KittyWampus
And by "supporting Sanders today" I mean drumming up as much support and energy for it on DU as is happening against Lieberman, Democrats and Obama.
I don't use the term "reactionary screamer' as an insult but as a very accurate description of those who are constantly up in arms on DU voicing dissatisfaction with what disappointing crap happened yesterday but spend little to no time posting about what positive actions are going on today.
Yesterday- Lieberman was a jackass and the Democrats were spineless Today- Bernie Sanders has an Amendment that is essentially Single Payer
Now, which of the above two facts has multiple threads going with untold passion being poured out on DU?
You'd think DU'ers who are pissed off about Lieberman and the jellyfish Dems would at least go whole-hog on agitating FOR Sanders' Amendment.
And for those who would respond "writing all the Senators to support Sanders Amendment is useless" I say WHAT FREAKING GOOD DOES POSTING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY DO?
Maybe this is the real difference between politics in America and Europe. Leftists in Europe don't waste their time posting on message boards about what happened yesterday but fight for what they want today.

1. Sanders Amendment has no chance of passing |
|

but I agree that it should be talked about more.
Can't fault people for still being pissed about Holy Joe. They feel powerless and angry and they have every right to be. This idiot has taken it upon himself to judge the fate of millions of people whom he has no connection with, no contact with and who didn't vote for him. This will go on for days. People need to vent. If it keeps them from taking it out on someone else then this is a constructive release..
Plus.. better him then Tiger  At least this is relevant to our lives.

3. "It has no chance of passing"- and complaining about Joe has a chance of accomplishing anything? |
|
There are different ways to vent.
It's too bad that energy couldn't be channeled into support FOR something positive.

2. That's good, but also why not find out why they don't want to use reconciliation? If they use |
|
reconciliation we don't have to worry about lieberman.
Even taking your point, if they don't accept the public option, or Medicare buy in, they will never except Sander's amendment without reconciliation, and no one is talking about that in the Senate, so that tells me the leaderships real intent

7. Reconcilliation is only law until the next 5 year budget. Most provisions of the bill |
|
wouldn't even go into effect before they would have to be re-passed.
Also, only the parts of the bill that effect the budget would be eligible to be passed temporarily under reconciliation.
That's why the bush tax cuts were temporary, because they were passed under reconciliation.
And the rest of the bill would still have to be passed in the usual manner.

5. I think the general consensus is that Sanders' Amendment |
|
has zero chance of passing. That's probably the reason there isn't much discussion about it. It's a great idea, but...

6. Sanders has put up a single payer amendment before. |
|
I screamed about it then and to no avail. I have made an effort almost everytime some notion of reform has come down the pike. The last was the Medicare buy-in.
At every turn, these changes have been scuttled by Joe, Snowe, Ben, Ben, Mary, Blanche or some combination. And then Rahm oozed over from the WH to snag Reid.
I have no more chips to play if I even had any to begin with. I have used up all my anger and disgust.
I play computer games a lot now to avoid my BP going up because it will if I hear the messages about one more chance. I passed 'the Last Chance Saloon' a while back.
Please don't lecture me about what I better be doing because if I don't I obviously don't give a shit. I'm all out of shit too.
