Which will house some Gitmo detainess. The Thomson prison is about 50 miles from my house and I am not scared at all. But the repubs will and already have spread fear. The Rock Island Arsenal and a large nuclear power plant are located nearby. I still ain't worried.

1. I would imagine there will be new jobs created...
No matter what Obama does, the Pubbies will poo poo on him... they are quite adept at moving the goalposts about to deflect anything that might be construed as an Obama victory. Same goes for the rabid detractors here.

2. 3000 jobs for a town that doesn't seem to even have a Walmart close by
Is that right? I did a Google search and found few local businesses. No surprise as the town looks teeny.

We have a supermax prison down in Florence, Colorado and as long as I've lived here it's never been an issue. And a whole town grew up because the prison in Canon City. Timothy McVeigh was housed for some time about 5 miles south of our home in a Denver suburb. Nobody batted an eye.

Good wishes go out to Thomson. I'm sure they're rejoicing as the town will have a jolt of prosperity.

5. Thomson itself has around 500 residents

Clinton, IA is just up the road and has Walmart, Kmart, restaurants and so on. I suspect that many of the employees will live there and commute. Or Morrison, IL or Fulton, IL. both of which have housing and commerce.
And the Quad Cities, which is where I live will likely get at least some of the employees spending their money here if not living here.

4. There are already about 3 dozen convicted terrorists in Illinois prisons.
Nothing's gone kaboom yet.
