When Obama said he thought the public option was best, was he flat out lying? |

1. Not at all. He just knew that there wasn't enough votes to get it. |
|
That doesn't mean he doesn't think it's the best option.

5. He can't force Lieberman to agree to a public option. |
|
Nothing he can do. Nothing.

8. He could have pushed harder |
|
Or sent his little pit bull, Rahm, over to the Hill to whip the Blue Dogs and DLC jerks into shape.
Obama is the one who said we needed a public option to "keep them honest". Let's not pretend he ever really intended to do anything but sell us out to the insurance companies. Rahm would not be his chief of staff if Obama gave a damn about the people who elected him.

4. That kind of stuff makes more sense when you're on the campaign trail asking people to vote for you |
|
At the point when the legislation is forming it doesn't make sense.
Maybe you could explain what the rationale would be behind that move.

11. Did he ever really say it was "best"? |
|
I can't imagine Obama saying anything that definitive. He's always careful to leave lots of wiggle room in his statements. How else can he be all things to all people?

12. No. My guess he either has been persuaded otherwise |
|
Or just realizes it can't go through.
