A step toward regulating the health insurance industry. |

Maybe in Obamas next term when things are up and running we can revisit the Public option. He could say for the need to reign in costs etc.

If we don't lay the foundation with basic HCR legislation NOW, there's no chance to improve or revisit anything later.

It will all be around the edges. This will end any attempt by the dems for transformational change in health care. They'll want to "move on" to other issues. Besides, the war in Afghanistan is going to suck all available funds out of the system for any extension of government based funding. It will be left to the GOP of the future to bring us anything approaching "single payer". Probably as some bailout for international corporations tired of having to directly fund healthcare for employees instead of having it be a cost spread amongst the population, like virtually every single one of our economic competitors.

3. After the blowback from the mandates in the midterms next year |
|
I seriously doubt that the even slimmer majority we may still have will want to go anywhere NEAR HCR for a very long time.

4. That would be "rein in" |
|
"Reign" refers to what kings and queens do. When you "rein in" a horse, you take a tighter hold on the reins to communicate with the horse that it should slow down or stop.

6. Reign is what kings do; rein in is what you do to horses. n/t |
