Poll question: Who's our worst prez? |
|
When I was younger, and draft eligible, I thought Nixon was evil incarnate. I think the carpet bombing of Hanoi on Christmas day sealed the deal with him. But in the overall world view, I now think bush has done more harm, even though there are fewer US casualties now. Other factors beside human body counts make bush more evil to me. What do you think? Nixon, bush or other?

Nixon may not even be second when you consider totality of accomplishments during administration
H Hoover might be worst. Or some other.
bush is 100% negative as to actually contributing anything, and has systematically dismantled the executive branch, turning it into a bunch of party apparatchniks. his legacy will be utter debacle.
bush is so worst you can't even make a comparison.

9. I remember Tricky Dick well |

Nixon's undoing was his own paranoia and insecurity. Only Nixon would try to rig an election he couldn't possibly lose.
In terms of domestic policy initiatives, Nixon was reasonably progressive. He established the EPA and signed the Clean Air and Clean Water bills. He established federal revenue sharing with big cities, an excellent program until Reagan killed it.
There's no doubt that detente and establishing diplomatic relations with the PRC were significant moments in the history of the 20th century. In retrospect, Nixon would have been an excellent secretary of state in someone else's administration and would be treated more generously by history had he been just that.
Of course, then, there's the bad: dragging out the Vietnam war for four additional years to settle for exactly the same deal he could have had in 1969, and all the needless death and destruction. Strangely, the Vietnamese people seem to have put the war behind them years ago and are now anxious to do business with us.
The domestic spying Nixon engaged in seems quaint compared to the Chimperor's shenanigans. Nixon would never for a minute have considered doing most of the things that Chimpy thinks are his divine right.
Jeebus, how bad have things gotten? My political awakening was as a Nixon-hater and now I find myself defending the man, at least to a degree. THAT'S how bad Chucklenuts is. :scared:

There were some who were more manipulative (Nixon) or more corrupt (Harding) or more awkward (Coolidge). And as for America's worsening image abroad, no past president can touch him.
But no president has managed to combine all these negatives in such a destructive manner.
The damage done by Bush will take decades to undo.
I'd even dare to say they may NEVER be completely corrected.

GW is horrible, but I think that he's a bit off of the worst. Several presidents in the leadup to the Civil War and Great Depression did more damage. I have some serious problems with LBJ, too.

Sure, Hoover's performance just before the Great Depression was pretty sad but he just can't compete with Junior.

At least Nixon had some positive accomplishments to his name. I can't think of a single positive thing Bush has accomplished (for the American people, not big bidness).

Presidents can not please everyone, I never expect them nor congress. But this asshat flat out REFUSES to compromise with the majority that want us out of the middle east. By vetoing the resent proposal by the American people at large, he is saying "FUCK YOU! its my government, ill do what I want!" Its obvious why he is hellbent on keeping us there, we all know it and some have said it, but the people that need to say it dont. The veto is so immoral he should be removed from office immediatly and change his name to Nero.
abusto is the WORST pResident EVER!!!!

20. You forgot to include Reagan and a tie between Reagan, |
|
Bush Number 1 and the current piece of #2 we have had to deal with for a president. Although, I'd probably still say Bush #2 has been the worst... so far...
God, I hope they never decide to put Jeb Bush up for nomination. I never thought I would hear myself saying this but, no more bushes at all for me, thank you.

Because he is of the same cloth of those who would have supported slavery and opposed equal rights in the past. Because he is of the same cloth as Hoover, who made some of the damn dumbest economic mistakes imaginable. Because he is of the same cloth as Harding, as to cronies and corruption. And because he is of the same cloth as Wilson on imperialism and Jackson, see Katrina.
We haven't even gotten to LBJ & Nixon, and a cabinet full of Iran/Contra veterans.
Add them all up, and I'm still not sure they can compete with the sheer horror of Bush.

31. Hoover? Please explain what he did that |
|
was so awful?
I was an adult during the Nixon administrations, and as bad as he was, he can't hold a candle to W.
Bush is so terrible that he needs to be considered in a category by himself.
Of course, for the rich Republicans out there who thinking inheriting millions of dollars tax free is the most important thing out there, I guess he's a pretty good President. Shudder.
