A serious question on 'unrecommend'. What is its purpose and how does it work? |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-22-09 10:14 PM by Bobbieo
What happens when a thread is unrecommended? I only see plus posts no negatives. So, I'm dyslexic and this makes no sense to me.

Some say it was devised by Rahm Emanuel to deflect some of the anti-DLC feeling by introducing another easy target.

I heard Rahm Emanuel also devised the dungeons, to keep people from knowing the TRUTH.
You are wise, oh NoPasaran.

But it was about the greatest page. Some crappy threads were making it to the greatest page because the number of posts on them were counted. The executive mods running the site thought it would help get the popular threads to the greatest page by giving people the right to unrec instead of counting the number of posts because many times the number of posts on a thread are about people taking it over and fighting with each other. Many times a really good OP (original post) will be very interesting only to be taken over by two or more DUers fighting with each other because that's what they do when the 'other' posts anything or because they can't disagree without fighting about it. That tended to make the thread go to the Greatest Page only because of the number of posts it had even thought nothing really great was in the OP.
But it seems that the innovation has been abused. Although the threads that make it to the greatest page are usually the better one because a lot of DUers will rec just to balance out the obviously stupid unrecs.
And in many cases it's very obvious that someone is unrec'ing all the OPs they can just to create disharmony. I mean, who unrecs an OP who is telling a personal story that has nothing to do with dissent?
I hope this helps a little.

Or do you have some inside track on something that has NEVER been posted publicly? :evilfrown:

18. Two ways that I can think of... |
|
1. Observing that the rec count is less than zero, which indicates that it has gotten more unrecs than recs, and
2. Obsessively watching a thread that has a positive rec count, and noticing that it doesn't always go up over time.

That scans GD once a minute and unrecommends any post that uses the word "unrecommend" in the OP title.
I care not what the purpose of "unrecommend" is, I only know that it's mere mention must be destroyed - before it destroys us all.
