Tavis asked the same question I asked last week. How did Imus story turn
into a criticism of hip hop? I asked that question here and got a lot of positive responses, and a very few kind of confused responses.

Tavis did a much better job than DU and I did on this issue. Anyone interested can listen to it here: http://tavistalks.com/

1. My Mom has a theory
She believes the whole controversy surrounding Imus is actually due to Imus' comments re: Bush&Co. He has called Cheney & Bush war criminals, was all over the Walter Reed scandal and the neocons have been livid about it all. So, as soon as Imus made such an offense comment re: Rutgers' team, the rabid right came after him for being a racist. Voila!
Imus is out and it's all about hip hop.

Imus' racists/sexist comments were hideous and intolerable and he should have been slapped up the side of the head a long time ago for such idiocy. But, I'm not so sure my Mom doesn't have a point about why all of a sudden he is now the poster boy for racism. Seems like the same ones that are so disgusted over the recent comments had nothing to say for similar comments aired in the past....

3. Look at the long list of crap Imus does listed at Media Matters
He literally endorses fascism.
