1. oh brother.
Avatar is a movie. It's framed specifically and neatly so that the movie goer does sympathize with the Na whatever. It is a tidy little package and about as unrelated to real life and real people as you can get.

4. It is, however, a political film.
The overall theme is political. :hi:

9. Well the antagonists are American military personnel who want the resources buried under the
Avatar's society. Which is exactly what we have done with the Iraqis and their oil. The political themes throughout the movie are painfully obvious. Did you like the movie?

3. From what I understand, the Avatar planet is an edenic heaven of "noble savages" -
Iraq under Saddam Hussein? Not so much.

5. There are allusions in the movie that point to the Iraq War.
I wish I could remember them specifically now. Maybe I'll take notes when I see it again.

20. There were a few allusions to Iraq, but mostly to Native Americans.
They specifically used the term "shock and awe", and the troops were mercenaries (Blackwater).

Otherwise, most of the allusions were to Native Americans.

8. It was the entire film.
It was all the cliche and trope of "the noble savage".

22. *Ugh* 'The Noble Savage' travesty
That's one reason I'm avoiding Avatar. Rousseau dehumanized the people of Pre-Colombian America as much as others that called them just plain 'Savages'.

10. and Iraq under Occupation seems to be even worse than was Saddam (our boy) was in charge
not that that would have mattered as look what we did to the Indians, in our early days.

Anyways, it seems that most Americans are against our war on Iraq today anyway.

14. I do remember that, under Hussein,
the electricity was on more than just a few hours ...

but with Bush ... it failed within 2 hours of his leaving the photo-op ...

13. Ah, OK.
There were clear references to the Iraq War in the movie, no doubt! My family and friends loved it (and I'm usually a real snob about movies). ;-)

15. i am sure u will be in the minority with that opinion.
it is a landmark film in it's stunning visual presentation. it is the best blending of organic cg and human characters that I have ever seen.

i am sure will be well represented during the academy awards.

16. It will win oscars. For all the wrong reasons.
Eye candy doesn't make for a shitty, unoriginal script, wooden acting and one-dimensional characters.

There's no subtlety left in Hollywood.

21. Was there ever subtlety in Hollywood?
But wow, as much as I may have liked the film, you have some 'serious' issues with it.

24. americans dont like the truth
If the MSM did their job and showed the truth of what we are doing in occupied countries , I would like to believe that the US public would demand that it end.
Out of sight, out of mind. people ignore it unless its thrown right in their face.
German citizens ignored the death camps that were right near their towns.
