A reminder about Grover Norquist.
Every time the subject comes up of Jane Hamsher joining with Grover Norquist to call for an investigation of Rahm Emmanuel, at least one person aways interjects "Good, the Right and the Left finally teaming up against our corporate masters!" or something of that nature.

Except, no. I'm not sure how much the Gilded Age is taught in high schools and colleges in this country, but the impression I got, even from my old school Conservative US history teacher, was that it was bad news. It is not a place we want to go. Except for Grover Norquist.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform and a pivotal leader in the movement's inside-outside politics, confirms this observation. "Yes, the McKinley era, absent the protectionism," he agrees, is the goal. "You're looking at the history of the country for the first 120 years, up until Teddy Roosevelt, when the socialists took over. The income tax, the death tax, regulation, all that."

He's not in it for the little people. Intentions matter. Please, do not think that he's in it for your benefit. He's in it to undo everything that's happened in the past 100 years.

1. Well, yeah. The first problem there is...
that I don't see any reason to investigate Emmanuel.

The next problem I have is with the motivations of anyone who would insist on such an investigation.

And teaming up with Norquist? OK, we were allies with Stalin once, but it would have to be something as big as fighting the Axis powers to publicly stand beside the likes of Norquist.

(The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.)

9. At Least With Stalin,. . .
. . .the common enemy was obvious. In this case, it's not, even if one believes an investigation is needed. (Like you, i don't.)

Norquist is the last guy any sane person who doesn't carry Ayn Rand books in the back seat would want as an ally.

Besides, he's been PROVABLY WRONG about everything he's said and done for the last 20 years. What kind of support does that provide?

3. The article at the link is worth reading as well.
I came across the quote from it in Krugman's Conscience of a Liberal.

direction since Reagan in the stupid quest to return us to the 19th century. But keep in mind his economics and small government philosophy is closer to Emanuel's views than Jane's and she has no power within the Democratic Party or government.
