need info, please!! is there ANY possibility that a non-com who (supposedly) served three tours in
iraq and afghanistan, and was wounded in the leg (full mobility, a scar, no limp, etc) is going to get a $100,000 settlement AND $3,000 month in disability pay?

this is what the SO of a young friend of mine is telling her, and, from my decades of experience with the military, the VA, and disability, (not to mention building 18, and all the stories we hear about the lack of treatment and help for our wounded), I find this incredibly hard to believe.

any information would be most appreciated.

1. No. Absolutely not.
The VA does NOT pay for scars.

VA Disability Compensation Pays:

The amount of basic benefit paid ranges from $115 to over $2,471 per month, depending on your level of disability.

Note: You may be paid additional amounts if:

* you have very severe disabilities or loss of limb(s)
* you have a spouse, child(ren), or dependent parent(s)
* you have a seriously disabled spouse

3. Let me add
It sounds as if a keyboard warrior somewhere tripped on his way to the refrigerator when he made this one up.
The ONLY $100,000 stipend that is given is a surviving family benefit and that was recently passed.

Death Gratuity

The death gratuity has been recently increased to $100,000, (100% tax free) and is paid to the next of kin for the following armed service members:

* A member of an armed force under his jurisdiction who dies while on active duty or while performing authorized travel to or from active duty;
* A Reserve of an armed force who dies while on inactive duty training (with exceptions);
* Any Reserve of an armed force who assumed an obligation to perform active duty for training, or inactive duty training (with exceptions) and who dies while traveling directly to or from that active duty for training or inactive duty training;
* Any member of a reserve officers' training corps who dies while performing annual training duty under orders for a period of more than 13 days, or while performing authorized travel to or from that annual training duty; or any applicant for membership in a reserve officers' training corps who dies while attending field training or a practice cruise or while performing authorized travel to or from the place where the training or cruise is conducted; or

2. If true, he's got a great lawyer..
Normally, they deny benefits and try to wear you down with paperwork till you give up.

5. An anecdotal comparison.
I have a nephew who has been on 3 tours and lost a leg and one hand in Iraq in addition to some brain impairment. He FINALLY started getting his disability pay about 3 months ago (took 7 months to start getting the deposits) His monthly is about $2,400. The only lump sum he got was 7 months back pay on the disability payments.

Given this, I don't believe the story you detailed.
