As a cynic, I'm convinced things are going to get better.
We all know things are pretty dreadful right now, right? No argument there? I'm speaking broadly here when I say "things", meaning the economy, the health care system, the environment, pretty much all around. I read lots of posts this morning all over DU bemoaning the terrible state of things and, what really got me thinking, the state of things to come.

I really think this current downturn has been a costly education for those who pull the strings. Their greed was allowed to go unchecked through 2 Bush terms and there's little left for the taking, surely no low hanging fruit. It's all got to be really worked for these days. Money and profits are too hard to wring out of a consumer based economy where the consumers cannot consume.

This is why things will get better. Of course I am not stupid enough to think there's been a real epiphany and the oligarchs will morph into humanitarians (or humans for that matter) any time soon. I do think things will be allowed to improve somewhat here in the US though.

Thoughts?

Julie

3. Its just sad...
That the american dream used to be "Work hard" and do the right thing and you will be successful.
Now You will be successful only if they "allow" it.
Its very depressing and not very empowering.
I have always worked quietly behind the scenes for social change by working at the homeless shelters and the Humane Society.
but at 50 years old I am about to get loud and involved in up front activism whether its allowed or not.

6. enantiodromia
the tendency of things to swing like a pendulum.

We are awfully fucking far out right now. When is it coming back? I keep think it has and then we just keep going in the wrong direction.

and we can't jump off it starts to get uncomfortable...

(I'm a cynic too..."
