1. Frankly I think the Progressive Populist and Hightower Lowdown are better. |
|
I subscribed to "The Progressive" for a year as well as the other 2 and I think the other 2 are better. http://populist.comhttp://jimhightower.com/

4. Crap, those look good, too. Might have to subscribe to more than one! |
|
I like the idea of the Progressive Populist, as I think that "populists" that become politically aware become "progressives".
Thanks!

5. Many of these publications cover the same issues and stories |
|
The Progressive and The Nation, which I have also subscribed to in the past, are a little more staid and ponderous, with lenghty, well-written articles. The Progressive Populist is a newspaper that is printed every 2 weeks (except they take a month or so off at the end of the year). It seems to arrive frequently and is pretty current with issues and events. It has a lot of regular columns from quite a few progressive writers and usually one long feature story. I think it's really good and just subscribing to it supports an alternative progressive press. Jim Hightower is probably my favorite progressive writer/columnist and not only does he write in an entertaining style, he also seems to be able to dig up stories which amaze me and often fly under the radar of the mainstream progressive media. His articles are generally fairly short and to the point. One of his columns is also reprinted in the Progressive Populist each issue, so there is a bit of overlap. However some of the Hightower Lowdown is exclusive articles not printed anywhere else.

2. Yes, we've gotten it for years. |
|
It dates back to Bob LaFollette's Wisconsin Progressivism in the early days of the last century. I strongly recommend it.

of the Hydrogen bomb recipe. Maybe 1979 or so.

10. I've always liked it. |
|
It was always a thrill to see it in my mailbox. My subscription ran out and I never renewed, but only because I couldn't really justify the expense at the time. I liked it better than The Nation, that's for sure.
