Photos from outside the Martha Coakley Rally today
We took the train into Boston to try to get in to the Northeastern U. gym-or at least close, but was told by the police around back that unless we had a VIP pass, it was pretty futile since there was already a long line down Huntington Ave-going in both directions-that snaked around the block. That was at about 12:30. So we walked around the corner, and sure enough-look at this!

We realized that it would be a long, chilly wait for ?? I didn't see any protesters but was told by another person who had gotten closer that there were some people up near the doors, across the street.

Here's a couple of long views from the opposite side of Huntington Ave.

The people I was with didn't want to stand in the cold fruitlessly, so-oh well, we ended up going to Legal Seafood restaurant for a clam chowder lunch....however, I felt encouraged that so many had turned out. I hope these photos bring you a smile as well.
:hi:
I steadfastly refuse to believe that the people of the Commonwealth of Mass. would elect a republican the likes of Scott Brown.

Thank you for sharing. I'd way rather read about efforts being made to elect the better candidate, than all of the premature... "analysis"... being done about her current standing in the polls.

5. YAY! But oh, the stupid ass headlines: "Obama desperate to save Coakley and his legacy..."
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 08:30 PM by NYC_SKP
for example (Kansas City Star).

"Agenda in peril, Obama fights to save Coakley" (msnbc)

Another one read something like, "Not completely full house turnout for Obama" or some such...

Yet, according to NationalJournal.com:

The scores of supporters of MA AG Martha Coakley (D) lining the blocks around Northeastern Univ.'s Solomon Court were turned away by Boston Police after fire marshals declared the venue had reached capacity at about 2 pm today.

9. We have an awful lot of non-residents adding to the din here
People are coming from outside the state to create confusion and noise. I think that Martha Coakley is right to come right back at Brown with the ads. I've gotten at least 3 good anti-Brown brochures in the mail in the last 3 days.
I don't believe any of the polls at this point. I think some of this noise is to get out the vote since it's a special election...my 2 cents.

12. Agreed on the polls. Thanks for Getting Out The Vote...
We're all watching and hoping.

Coakley may not be the dream Senator, but I'll be damned if Kennedy's seat goes to a Republican...

7. Any idea why they picked Northeastern University in Boston as the venue?
Seems like Boston is a Democratic stronghold that doesn't need much convincing?

8. Thanks for the encouraging pictures. Cloakley will pull this out.
People have to think with a level head and not with their out of sorts emotions. I can not believe Massachusetts could elect someone of the caliber and likes of Brown.

10. Large crowds do not always indicate a win.
Though this is encouraging since the Democrats were asleep until last week.
GOTV will determine this one. Coakley can win by a respectable margin we get our voters to the polls.

21. Boston was windy
It was chilly and raw (raining now)-and I was with an older person. Plus, it was obvious that we wouldn't get inside. So clam chowder sounded good at that point...:D

14. Could you please help me out a little bit?
I caught part of the President's remarks at the rally today, and he quipped more than once about an ad Brown had run and a pickup truck. Jeeze, I have no idea about the content of the ad, but for all your sakes I hope the ad wasn't as bad as Fred Thompson and that stupid pickup truck crap.

Nice Pics, and thanks.

22. Well yuck, and I'm sorry that you've been exposed so often.
At least his truck is nicer that Ole' Fred Thompson's. And thanks I really was curious about what the President was at times with humor referencing.

I'm starting to think Coakley is going to pull it off.. the same state that gave us Ted Kennedy and John Kerry is NOT going to send a Repuke like Brown to the Senate.

24. But doesn't the MSM say it's a done deal?
If I hear it on ABC news, it must be true!

Nice pictures, wovenpaint.

I attended a Kerry/Clinton rally in Philadelphia where there were 3 "levels" - VIPs had Blue tickets, semi-VIPs had red, hoi polloi had white (printout). I had white. Went to the red gate anyway, and damned if there wasn't someone from my Committee, who recognized me as a (lowly) committeewoman and waived me through! Highly unlikely in Philadelphia that a suburban chair would be manning the gate, but I guess standing outside all those rainy election days paid off. Then weaseled around and was able to stand a foot away from the "blue area", so I got a great view of Kerry and Clinton.

It helped that it was a gorgeous fall day, otherwise heat or cold would have made all the standing very uncomfortable, and I would have been off getting the Philly equivalent of the chowder you got!
