I ventured into the asylum at FR to see what they thought of the SCOTUS ruling |
|
They seem to be all up in arms that the President and Congress are trying to mitigate the damage and on and on they went about how the 1st amendment is being upheld by this. I'm just wondering. Has anyone told them yet that it allows foreign corporations to spend unlimited money, too? I mean, wasn't that foreign money given to some Democrats in the past a big issue for them. Wonder when that part's going to hit them?

1. You'd have to frame it as "do you know this means illegals can buy your elections" |
|
before it would even register with them.

I would have thought their first concern would have been China. I'm betting they don't get it that this applies to foreign corporations as well.

30. China? Because of what happened in 1996, right? |
|
1996 United States campaign finance controversy article on Wikipedia - documents how Chinese associates of Bill Clinton & Al Gore were accused of donating illegally to Clinton's 1996 presidential campaign.

8. Freepers are always for the unfettered free market, until it comes down |
|
to who you can hire. If a market was totally free, there should be no restrictions. But freepers are always for government control when it comes to illegal aliens. Government should not, for instance, tell someone they cannot pollute or gouge, but they sure should be able to tell you that you can't hire someone born other than on the purple mountain majesties of the U.S.
and to be sure they'd like to have even more illegals by not having birthright citizenship.

18. Not quite. Employer should be free to hire whoever he chooses. |
|
"Illegals" should not be permitted to be where they can be hired. But since they are, employer should also be free to set the terms of that employment.

25. Freepers would be fine with no restrictions on say just hiring white people |
|
But restrictions on hiring someone born in another country? that's OK. That's not the free market but freepers don't care about the free market in this instance.
and freepers always claim their ancestors came to the US legally.

24. Yup. China can now directly buy our elections. And why shouldn't they? |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 10:17 PM by w4rma
If I were running China, I'd buy American elections and install politicians that will, using newly Chinese written laws, hand over our secrets to China. Easy and bloodless. Win!

It is likely they think whoever has money should be able to use it to buy whatever ads they want to in any time. Knowing, of course, that favors Republicans.

I don't think they get it that our guys have been bought by the corporate interests, too. But I would, really, have thought the foreign corporations coming in with tons of cash to influence our elections would have hit home with them.

what they say won't matter -- both sides will do the bidding of our corporate overlords or face the consequences.

16. Aside from Freepers, many Repukes will not agree with this ruling. |
|
It's faulty on its face. It's got the makings of disaster for all of those RW'ers who want less taxes and less spending.
Government contracts will be sold to the highest bidder, and we'll all be paying the tab. Ask the freepers how this won't happen.

But I would have thought someone there would have been up in arms about it. Not sure if that part hasn't been conveyed yet or if now it's ok with them. I just remember all the endless crap about Gore and the Buddhist temple thing from the RW.

I talked him into being for Medicare For All. It's not that hard, really. The Dems couldn't do it because they really didn't want to.
