So tar and feather me. I like Obama. |
|
And I think he is doing the best he can in a horrible situation. At least I feel like he actually knows what's going on in the real world. And he can talk in full sentences. And he's way smarter than the average bear.
I am just appalled at how divided this country is now. You should see the letters to the editor in the daily paper here. Letter writers are so sarcastic. Anyone with a different opinion is stupid or an idiot - or worse. Scary stuff. I can't remember when people were just so rude to each other.
I think Obama is doing an amazing job considering the atmosphere in this country.

I don't know if that is good or bad, but yeah, people are extremely divided. I have even heard people say we weren't even this divided during the 60s.

But he could be doing a much better job. The "atmosphere" in part is because of the way he is doing his job.

5. I agree. BushCo left a fucking mess and I think Obama has done a great job picking up the pieces. |
|
His biggest obstacle is Congress. The GOP will do anything to undermine his efforts even if it is detrimental to the country and the Democrats still haven't grown a fucking spine.

of the shitpile Bush left him and it seems no one appreciates his efforts. It's going to take time and whole lot of effort to get us out of this hole...probably 10 years, like the last great depression. If Bush was still in office he'd be off in Crawford on vacation.

7. How do you define "the best he can?" How does anyone know if he is "doing the best he |
|
can" if he doesn't have a war room to get out the message.
It is NOT what he has or hasn't said that matters.
He has been less than successful in getting out his message, which is the biggest part of his job.

8. I agree with everything you say... |
|
... but...
I thought I was electing another FDR. Now I see that I helped elect another Herbert Hoover.
Hoover was a good man. He fed Europe after WWI.
He was a very intelligent man, unlike Harding.
But ultimately, he just didn't have the stuff to handle what was going down.
Obama inherited a terrible disease, but some of the medicine he's taken to cure that disease has just exacerbated it. His support of the banksters and brokesters, and his continued involvement in Vietghanistan may be the medicine that kills his presidency and brings on another round of poisonous Repub "remedies". That might kill the country.

11. I like and respect him too! I still believe in him and his vision. |
|
But then again. . .I wasn't expecting miracles, and I was listening to what he was saying. . .not to what I wanted to hear!
And I am not influenced by the negative publicity he is constantly being bombarded with by the Right, and more recently, even the Left!
I do think he needs to show his determination and to push his weight around more. And he needs to move quickly to fulfill some of his promises such as Gay rights, more control over big business bonus, AND increase tax on the 1% wealthiest American by at least 5% (and 3% on people making over $500,000 a year).
Other than that, he is on the right track. . .it just takes time!

I'm very impressed with his political savvy. He knows when to keep his fingerprints off a bill, when to pander, and he always has the right words handy. Imagine what he might accomplish if he was out to help the middle class instead of Wall Street.
What I can't understand are the people who praise his intellect, then explain his failure to push a liberal agenda by saying he just didn't understand how partisan politics works. C'mon-- a child can understand that. Obama understands it very well.

28. We have no clue what goes on behind the scenes |
|
we have no idea what he is really up against, how entrenched the corruption is or who (how many) are really trying to run the show and call the shots. Many here complain like school children without a clue, like being the President of the United States is an easy job - especially when the country was near complete and total destruction. We were nearly at the unrecoverable point after 8 years of Bush/Cheney when Obama walked in the door. Its easy to just bitch. Its going to take more than one year to undo the years of corruption and robbery. I still say and think we elected the best man for the job. And if he can't get it done, than no one could. They just think they could.

I have this side you watch that one. Considering what the man is faced with economically not to mention the no party and their antics. That is the party people need to be pissed at not Obama. He is only one man and can only do so much and like clinton before him whatever he gets done will be in spite of the :puke:s. Clinton never got a puke vote on anything that he proposed best I remember.

Nor do I have any issue if you think he is doing the best job ever. I just hope you would respect other people's right to be upset with the direction he is moving in, even if you don't agree.
We have to start being good to each other, even when we disagree.

31. I've read many of your posts and think you try to be a reasonable person |
|
so I'll address this to you because I think you'll understand.
Those of us that support this President and realize the tough position he was placed in from the start are upset too. We are upset at the perceived glee (there is no other word for it) of so many on the left at any misstep Obama makes. We are upset at the constant, unrelenting tearing down of this man. There is an organized effort to play up every problem and down play any success. They really want this President to fail.
I find it very hard to be good to people like that. The price of an Obama presidential failure is endless Republican rule.

33. I will tell you honestly, I take no glee in the Presidents mistakes. |
|
It breaks my heart watching him move to the right. While you find it difficult to be good to people you perceive as finding glee in our troubles I have to say I have just as hard a time trying to be polite to those who hammer anyone who questions anything Obama does, is really leftie or brings up a topic they think might shine badly on Obama. But most of all, ironically, I find it hardest to be polite to those on the board who treat others with a complete lack of civility.
I think there is nastiness coming from people on both sides and perhaps the majority of the people on DU who ARE nice, compassionate, intelligent people need to start letting those who are stirring up the bad feelings and stifling discussion that they need to stop.
We can disagree and still behave like rational adults. I try to think of how I would behave in a coffee shop type discussion setting and act accordingly.
And thank you for the compliments, you made me smile this gloomy New England morning.

I'd rather not talk to people who push my buttons and cause me to behave in ways I'd rather not behave. There are many very nice DUers to talk to. I'm hopeful they will step up and help stop the nastiness. Keep up the good work. I look forward to talking to you in other threads. :) If you haven't ever checked out the Barack Obama Group (the BOG) it's a great place to positively discuss what the President is doing without the negativity of GD.
