Why can't our candidates be more like Dennis Kucinich?
This is probably because Dennis Kucinich doesn't even have to be Dennis Kucinich. In other words, he knows that he will not be elected president, nor will many of his bills pass (has he had one ever pass?), so he can promise anything he wants to with little consequence.

There was no "alien thing". He said he saw a UFO - an unidentified flying object, which is not at all the same thing. Airline pilots and police officers see that sort of thing occasionally too. Are they automatically comic relief as well?

67. I challenge that
Dennis was on the debates with the others who were running for the Dem primary. If the people wanted him to win, they'd have rallied around, he'd have been in the news and the news forced to cover his activities.

I just don't subscribe to the doctrine we are helpless pawns of corporations.

If his ideas has resonated with the majority of Americans, they would have voted for him in the primary. And then the election.

Not that I don't agree with a lot of what he says.

Unfortunately, just because you don't subscribe to this does not mean it isn't true. After 30 years of relentless trickle down brainwashing by right wing politicians and their puppy dog press, nothing that benefits average Americans is going to 'resonate' much with average Americans.

which you apparently do - they your goal must be to find a way to get our hands on as much money as possible so that we can do the manipulating rather than the Republicans? Only if we get more $$ than they will we win?

You're in effect saying the people are so helpless that whoever buys the seats wins.

So how do we get the most $$ to Dennis, so he can buy the Presidency?

It has little to do with him being short - he is 5' 7", Howard Dean is 5' 8 1/2" and he was the frontrunner for several months and lack of height had nothing to do with his loss.

I think those traits describe Kucinich as well as Howard Dean and the late Paul Wellstone. I want our candidates to have those traits also.

Why be so derisive toward him? He stands for what he believes, and he's just a congressman, so he is no huge threat to the status quo all by himself. I think of him like George McGovern in his later years when he was called the conscience of the Democratic party. I like Dean's comment about the Democratic wing of the Democratic party. Certainly our party can allow a few dreamers. Ridiculed at first, some dreamers have later been described as visionaries.

Use this energy to attack the true evil, the Republicans. These are perilous times and the stakes are high.

For every time a Democrat attacks another well meaning Democrat, a redneck gets a tooth.

43. I don't know about "many hardcore followers"
I admire him, yet I've never voted for him. I liked his issues, but in the age of TV, he is just a non-starter. Just as FDR would be today.

Maybe there is a small, but vocal, hard core following on DU, and I, too, have to give him credit on being right on so many issues. There are many ineffective leaders in the House from my state, but I would settle for them being right as much as Dennis is. I think that's where the following comes from.

As far as the "Limey hippie chick", give me a break! If you looked like Dennis and a hot, intelligent woman that is totally in love with who you are (it can't be looks or power), you would say to her, I'm sorry, I'm too shallow to deal with your beauty. Right.

If he flip-flopped on choice, he flipped in the choice direction, didn't he? I hope so. If not, I would find that hypocritical with his general world view as I understand it.

Anyway, he is a progressive democrat, so IMHO, he shouldn't receive such derision on a progressive board. Plus, 'necks with teeth scare me.

Dennis has every same chance of losing his office as anyone else. I think it's because most candidates sell their votes. They are greedy. Next best reason is they simply lack guiding principles.

But all this is really a reflection of US. We have to vote the people who let us down us out of office!
