DADT: The Stealth Elephant In The Room |
|
Surprised no one has mentioned the ticking time bomb sitting in the middle of the DADT debate:
the Christian proselytizing that has been going on in all branches of the military.
Our servicemen and women are being hounded into converting to Xianity, and are being told that homosexuality is in sin. They are being brainwashed into having contempt for gays serving with them.
The only reason to oppose equal rights for gays is religion-based, and in this country, that means Christianity based.
I would like to see some TV gasbag bring this up in the discussion of eliminating DADT.

6. well, it is the end times |
|
We need to stimulate the economy, so let's all tell all our christian work friends that the need to stop saving for retirement, and spend that money, because there is only a short time left anyway.
It would work with the brain dead ones I work with. Maybe I start trying this tomorrow.

The Bushes clearly do, but the uniformed military does not much of a lot of choice.

3. Yeah, I just had a +4 OP addressing the GOP actively painting the issue... |
|
into one of lurid, ever-expansive homophobic musings that was unrecced, here at DU, down to '0' - there's going to be no changes with respect to this topic so long as people are prepared to be so consistently ignorant

Only this time I want to ban all military personnel from any discussion their religious beliefs.
I wonder how that would go down with the born-agains...

7. How about revising DADT to provide that |
|
we won't ask people if they have a problem with gays and lesbians, and those who do will be permitted to serve in the military provided they keep their bigotry to themselves.

10. Even Christian soldiers follow orders |
|
and they'll be ordered to STFU. I see this as a very, very good thing for the military, the country and the world. :)
