Central Valley Tea Party members said Friday they decided to skip this weekend's national convention.
"The Tea Party convention is just a training seminar for Tea Party leaders," said Brad Roltgen, head coordinator of the Central Valley Tea Party.
Roltgen said he decided not to attend the convention because of the steep price of more than $500. He compared that to the $15 the Central Valley Tea Party charged for its training event in October.
"That's what grass roots is all about, not $550 for a 48-hour event," Roltgen said. "This convention is just not part of the grass-roots thing that has been going on since February."
