Backseat rescue: Volunteer firefighter Jeff Martin lifts a dog through the broken back window of a partially submerged car that crashed off Todd Bridge Road south of Owensboro, Ky. The driver and another passenger were taken to a hospital.

8. What a great guy - I'm guessing that's some chilly-ass water. Can you imagine riding

in the ambulance knowing that your pet was still behind in a wrecked, maybe sinking, car surrounded by strangers and unfamiliar territory? They'd have to strap me down and give me major sedatives (assuming of course that the injuries hadn't already quieted me down)...
