Pres. Obama to consider recess appointments for stalled nominations
President Barack Obama on Tuesday signaled he could appoint nominees to key federal posts while Congress is on break next week.

<snip>

While Obama did not mention the senator by name, he accused Shelby of obstructing confirmation votes "due to a dispute over a couple of earmarks in his state," and he called on Shelby and others to cede ground and permit final votes on nearly 70 candidates whose nominations have remained in limbo for months now.

"If the Senate does not act to confirm these nominees, I will consider making several recess appointments over the upcoming recess, because we cant allow politics to stand in the way of a well functioning government," Obama said.

2. About time. They are not going to work with us unless they get their
way. When my great grandchildren play that childish game I get stubborn.

3. Sounds like a good idea......
although I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm afraid his compulsive "bipartisan"ness may ultimately get the better of him.

6. Since Shrub put in idiots like Gonzales & Bolton that way
I think it prudent not to overuse the ability and continue a bad precedent of end-running (where subsequent Presidents may believe it necessary to do this automatically with every appointment going forward, taking the Executive Branch further and further into a dictatorship)... Same goes with signing statements IMHO.
