A Question About The Rebuilding Of Iraq |
|
The rebuilding of Iraq; now there's an odd thing to say.
A lady called C-Span's Washington Journal this morning and made a comment that caught my attention. The current discussion is limited to parents of service persons and solicits their opinion as to should we stay or leave Iraq. The lady noted that her son was doing his third tour. She related that he said during his first tour things were different and the unit he is in was involved in rebuilding schools in some or another province.
It occurred to me that if the fellow was no on his third tour then his first tour must have been early in the occupation, while the damage was fresh. Now I understand that our "Shock and Awe" is indeed a fearsome thing but what on earth were we doing bombing schools? Then it occurred to me that I've been hearing about the rebuilding of schools and hospitals for year after year since this mess began. So now I'm asking myself, did we purposefully target schools and hospitals in order to shock and awe the nation of Iraq? We're told constantly about the surgical precision of our strike capability these days so that rules out the collateral damage argument.

1. You have a very interesting thought here. |
|
What do you want to bet the administration would just brush the school damage as collateral damage?

2. We slapped a coat of paint on a few schools |

so that we could say that we were over there 'rebuilding schools'...sort of a 'what can you say bad about that' kind of thing to do.

3. Think About The Conditions At Walter Reed In Relation To This Questiion .... |

about rebuilding schools and hospitals. If *Co doesn't have the decency to treat our own right - how do you think they feel about the Iraqi people and their plight.

4. Iraq Reconstruction costs |
|
One wonders if Colin Powell's statement (pottery barn rule) was ever followed up. What I mean is, just what is the US responsible for? Do we have the responsibility for Iraq citizens health, their pensions, and ultimately, will they be inheriting a modern weapon equipped military? I shudder at the thought of a Shite led military with the same weapons and equipment as our own soldiers use.
