Missouri State Senator: Repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Would Offend Muslims
JEFFERSON CITY — Sen. Gary Nodler doesn't want to offend the terrorists.

The Joplin Republican who is running for Congress suggested as much Tuesday when opposing the movement to repeal the nation's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

The policy — which allows gays to serve in the military as long as they don't tell anybody they're gay — should be repealed, President Barack Obama said in his State of the Union address.

His top military leaders agreed with him.

But some Missouri Republicans don't.

Sen. Bill Stouffer, R-Napton — who like Nodler is running for Congress — has proposed a resolution in the Missouri Senate that would urge Congress to keep the current policy.

State Sen. Jolie Justus, D-Kansas City, has proposed a competing resolution that would urge Congress to get rid of "Don't ask, don't tell."

On Tuesday, Justus and Stouffer presented their arguments.

Nodler, a member of the committee hearing the resolutions, made it clear where he stood.

"There are real-world implications," Nodler said. "This is a policy that would directly threaten the lives of soldiers today."

3. Since when has offending Muslims been a concern of the GOP?
Muslim-bashing in their old standby.
