Is there any real issue the two major parties / their followers, agree on? |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 11:23 PM by Skip Intro
I can't think of one real issue (I mean, I'm sure we're all against decapitating people at 42, or for not doing that, but real issues) do we, parties and/or the majority of Americans agree on a single real issue? Unless I'm missing something, there isn't one, at least readily available.
And doesn't that strike you as odd, almost too unlikely to be realistic? It does me, and makes me suspect, on some level, just as I would about a deal that's too good to be true, that something else is really going on, that someone or something is trying to fool me. Makes me wonder sometimes if the whole this party good, that party bad/no, this party good/that party bad - good guy/bad guy thing has effectively become a charade, just one more part of some "keep 'em busy with this game while we..." - while they what?
Nah...

1. If there were, it wouldn't be an "issue." |
|
We agree murder should be illegal, so there's no controversy over that -- it's not an "issue."
The other paranoia in the OP is... just, wow.

2. We agree some murder should be illegal. The death penalty is an "issue" as you define it. |

So is war. What is war if not mass murder? Death penalty proponents and war proponents share party affiliation for the most part, wouldn't you say?
As for "the other paranoia," eh, I get like that sometimes. Can't help asking "what if" now and then, think the unthinkable. Entertain the impossible, that which "just can't be." How can you be sure of anything involving the theater that is politics or the behavior of the American people, evidently yearning to be gullible and led? I have an appreciation for absurdity as well. That might have something to do with it....

5. The issues that get their own 'dungeon' forums here on DU |

because discussing those issues openly in General Discussion might look bad.

6. Preserve and expand the empire at all costs. |

To that end, scramble desperately to recreate the Cold War status quo.

Now which direction this goes depends on ideology. Unfortunately, we as the majority party are going to face the brunt of the anger in Nov.
