Sherman...set the Way-back machine to the year 2009...how America dodged the bullet
Bush's Secret Dictatorship

Snip...

Law professor Jack Balkin blogs about "reasoning which sought, in secret, to justify a theory of Presidential dictatorship...

"This theory of presidential power argues, in essence, that when the President acts in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief, he may make his own rules and cannot be bound by Congressional laws to the contrary. This is a theory of presidential dictatorship.

"These views are outrageous and inconsistent with basic principles of the Constitution as well as with two centuries of legal precedents. Yet they were the basic assumptions of key players in the Bush Administration in the days following 9/11."

Scott Horton blogs for Harper's: "We may not have realized it at the time, but in the period from late 2001-January 19, 2009, this country was a dictatorship. The constitutional rights we learned about in high school civics were suspended. That was thanks to secret memos crafted deep inside the Justice Department that effectively trashed the Constitution. What we know now is likely the least of it." Read More...

The Democrats in congress shouldn't make deals with "ruthless dictators" or their henchmen across the aisle. How quickly they have forgotten.

1. And as soon as we get another Republican president it'll be right back..
Which might be a lot sooner than many of us would believe, if the economy still sucks in 2012 Obama is going to have a very tough battle indeed.

3. And yet, not a thing has been done about it.
Where's Congress on this? Nancy Pelosi took impeachment off the table, and by doing so she endorsed the Bush policies and became complicit in them.

Harry Reid is doing good to get his trousers on every day, so my expectations of him are quite low.

Obama? Crickets.

Holder? Crickets.

The only way to stop this cycle is for the American people to take their toys away from the powers that be and send them home. I had hoped Obama would have been the catalyst to make that happen, but it appears he's perfectly happy with the status quo, which makes him as bad as Bush in that respect.

If you keep forgiving and forgetting, you're doomed to keep repeating history. Watergate was bad. The Bush years were worse. At some point, there will be another Republican in The White House. When the precedent is do whatever you want, you won't be investigated and you won't get caught, there's no reason to not keep pushing it more and more.

Obama, Holder, and Congress are setting us up for a very dangerous period ahead if they do nothing.

4. "a very dangerous period ahead if they do nothing."
And so far they have done little or nothing to rectify the damage to the Constitution...

The American dream has become a "Fractured Fairy Tale" DINO = "Democracy" in name only.

Greed and Dictatorial power is poised to bring down yet another "Superpower"

"Bipartisanship" with despotic enablers is nothing short of collaboration.

6. "If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, heh, heh, heh, just so long as I'm
the dictator."

Said by Chimpyshit AT LEAST three times, the above episode **only 6 days after he was appointed by the Felonious Five". I heard it on the radio that day whiole driving, and was so shocked that he would say such a thing that I nearly drove off the road at the utter inappropriateness of it...
