Why do they hate ACORN?
What do they think is so friggin' bad about ACORN, anyway?

Is it comparable to Freedomworks? Is it a front for voting fraud? Do they deal drugs? Do they offer business advise to whore house start ups? Do they smuggle illegal aliens into America via some sort of underground railroad? Do they participate in White Slavery rings?

-just wondering.

1. because it has the possibility of working, that it leans more toward what Democrats
(usually) would stand for, and it usually helps minorities in being able to vote ... minorities which, historically, vote Democratic ...

but the ACORN haters aren't "racist" ... nope ... :eyes:

5. To many, MANY baggers/Repubs, ACORN is codespeak for the "N" word:
http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/acorn-handy-substitute-n-word-912-ev

The bigger question is: Why target African Americans when there are are hundreds of vendors at these things? And why assume that they have anything to do with ACORN?

Because, to the teabaggers, ACORN is synonymous with scary black people. The kind who, in the minds of Glenn Beck and his followers, are lurking, waiting to overthrow America when Obama orders them to. (Even if they later turn out to be a dance troupe.)

As Susie says, ACORN is just the new wingnutspeak code for the 'N' word. It's now become an epithet -- one you can chase black people around with and accuse them angrily. Just what America needs right now.

ACORN: McCain And GOP Used To Be Supporters

First Posted: 10-13-08 03:48 PM | Updated: 11-13-08 05:12 AM

On Monday, the Democratic-leaning group ACORN, which has been painted as a criminal enterprise by the GOP for its voter registration and housing policy efforts, pushed back against its critics by producing a photo of John McCain attending its March 2006 rally.

It was a reminder that, for all their electoral histrionics, Republicans have aligned themselves with ACORN in the past.

Indeed, in addition to the McCain photo, there is a host of examples of prominent McCain surrogates attending ACORN events, signing ACORN legislation, or complimenting the group's efforts.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, for example, partnered with ACORN in March 2008 for a "Homeownership Promotes The Economy" taskforce. More recently, Crist declared that -- contrary to GOP outrage -- he was not upset with the group's voter registration efforts in his state. The New York Times reported that ACORN supported a law signed by Governor Crist, which "changed the rules last year to restore the voting rights of about 112,000 former convicts."

In July 2005, meanwhile, another Republican governor, Rick Perry of Texas, signed ACORN's Lending Law Reform Bill that changed the state's homelending practices.

7. Racism, first and foremost. A close second is that ACORN seeks to help "those people" whom the
fundies and baggers think should not be full participants in American democracy.

ACORN helps the poor - and the "worst" kind of poor people at that.

9. ACORN is code for "those damn uppity urban blacks."
The GOP has long hated ACORN because ACORN is a force in many urban areas.

ACORN works on registering voters and getting them to the polls. The GOP's key election strategy is suppressing the black vote.

11. The Freeps, The Teabaggers, Flat Earthers and the Greed Heads all know that.....
There are more than enough White Folks with either brains and/or compassion to join with African Americans and Hispanics to permanently disenfranchise their asses. So, if they can keep minority voting down, either by bullying or outright sleazy cheating ala Katherine Harris, then they can make it close enough to steal. If minorities vote, the in-breds and the greed heads lose and lose big.

So, it's racism and a knowledge that they're a dying breed.......

13. Their anger all started when ACORN began registering the masses to vote
I don't know why republicans are against voter registration and want to inhibit peoples right to vote but it is always an issue with them.

They are confident now that they can stop any Democratic candidate from being elected if they stop mass registrations.

And they know it, for many years now. Just like Israel knows. That is why they did the felon purges. The other tricky schemes. And why they turn a jaundiced eye to clear hate and evil. It has to be endured, to get the right people into office. Truth be damned.

17. At some level they see their future
The baggers and freeptards hate Obama and hate ACORN because both symbolize sweeping demographic transformation in this country. Change that favors meritocracy means the jig is up for underperforming and undereducated white folks who have enjoyed their own special form of "affirmative action" for a very long time.

18. In a nutshell: It enables poorer urban people to vote.
And poor urban people tend to vote Democratic.

Of course they don't pay much...and therefore may hire a few dim bulbs who cut corners and don't question crazy shit...that in FReeperland is tantamount to conspiracy.

20. I have no idea
I was doing voter registration prior to the 2008 election in Kansas City, MO. We registered both R's and D's (although of course we went to heavily D wards) and didn't advise anyone how to register.

We were at a strip mall one Saturday and some freeper nut started screaming that we were ACORN. It was an utterly insane rant and everyone going to and from their cars stopped and stared at him. After he left, the guy who headed up our group was completely befuddled. I had to explain to him who ACORN was.

The paranoia about ACORN is like a sickness. Now they treat something that is a civic activity - registering voters - as a high crime.

22. Black people -it really is just that simple.
They hate ACORN because it helps poor (black) people mostly. Also, a lot of black people work for and with ACORN.

This is also the reason so many hate Barak Obama, he happens to be black. I find the people who want to ignore the above and pretend there are deeper issues are almost as disturbing as those who hate ACORN and Obama. Sometimes a reason is as simple as can be. Trying to find deeper meaning merely dilutes the truth.
