If you're out of work this might give you some slight hope |

I've been retired for years, and now my like-aged friends are following suite. The baby boomers are just getting to retirement age and every one of them that hands in his badge opens up a job for those still in the market. This past January first I had a handful of old workmates walk out the door for the last time, next year there will be even more. The number of people retiring is about to explode. Its not much good news for job hunters, but its some.

1. Right, and some of us had decent jobs |

I got too sick to work 6 years ago, lived on my savings for almost 3 years and then inherited a surprise--enough to live on. My RN job was a good one, and if they treated RNs any better on the job, they'd be overwhelmed with applicants for it.
I was happy to step aside and make room for someone just starting out. I wasn't so happy to live in poverty for those 3 years.
The problem now is that so many boomers will have to work part time until they drop to supplement their social security checks. That means the entry level jobs usually reserved for feckless teenagers will be taken by Grammie and Grampa.
However, there are going to be good jobs, especially Civil Service jobs, opening up for the Xers and Yers.
