Man Charged For Stockpiling Weapons Was Tea Partier, Palin Fan
The Massachusetts man charged this week for stockpiling weapons after saying he feared an imminent "Armageddon" appears to have been active in his local Tea Party group, and saw Sarah Palin, on a "righteous 'Mission from God,'" as the only figure capable of averting the destruction of society.

As we reported yesterday, Gregory Girard, a Manchester technology consultant, was found with a stash of military grade weapons, explosive devices including tear gas and pepper ball canisters, camouflage clothing, knives, handcuffs, bulletproof vests and helmets, and night vision goggles, say police. They believe Girard, who pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, was "preparing for domestic and political turmoil," and feared martial law would soon be imposed.

Girard's wife said her husband had recently told her: "Don't talk to people, shoot them instead," and "It's fine to shoot people in the head because traitors deserve it."

But it appears that Girard had lately found a community with which to share some of his growing fears. A "Greg Girard," listing his location as Manchester, Mass., has a personal page on the Patriots of America website, a popular Tea Party online network. The phone number listed on the page is the same as the number listed on the website of Girard's consulting firm, which appears to have been run out of his home.

-----

For instance, just last week, after another Tea Partier wrote a post railing against gun registries, Girard responded by invoking a potential "murderous rampage" by "state and Federal gangsta's (sic)," trying to take his weapons.

I am shocked I tell you just shocked that he is a Tea Partier and Palin fan. :sarcasm:

5. It's a big deal in Mass.
I was heading for Tombstone AZ one night and my car started misfiring from some cheap gas, so I pulled off the road, slapped a 30 round mag in my AR-15 and curled up in the back seat.
Next thing I remember is hearing a vehicle pull up behind me and seeing flashing blue lights. It was an older State Trooper. He asked me if I was OK and I explained why I stopped. He sees the rifle on the back floor and says. "Well, it looks like you're not going to have any problems tonight."
I thanked him for stopping and he left.

Totally different mindset.

13. Its not the quantity of the guns - but the guy is probably a nutball

Which I base on his rantings not so much the stockpile in his house. I sure don't see anything wrong with having legal guns, ammo, a stockpile of food, water and survival supplies(note I don't consider the following needed for survival - handcuffs, bulletproof vests and helmets). And I do fault news media for making this kind of thing out to be some kind of crime.

I might even say the police went too far. Among the illegal weapons they charged him for was 4 illegal police batons.

I have mixed emotions on this arrest. In another state he may not have been busted. But just reading what this guy writes he has gone around the bend IMHO mentally in his paranoia.

Be an interesting case to follow. Were the cops premature in arresting him? Was he a danger to his neighbors - just in what he was stocking in his condo or for instance setting up a illegal shooting range in his attic?

I might side with this guy on the charges - but I can also say that many of the irresponsible Repukes, Tea Partiers, Palin, etc. are doing nothing but stoking the fear in some people like him and I do fear there could well be a serious consequence for someone they consider an enemy.

6. I think it is obvious
this guy is a nut, but to assign the blame to the firearms he owned is just as crazy. I am a firearm owner and a hunter but I do not agree with the Tea Bag mentality nor am I a fan of Palin. I also agree that 20 guns is not a huge stockpile... 21 maybe ;)

The fact they called them military grade and he had bullet proof vests and helmets is a scarier proposal and the statements made to his wife are a bit on the Glenn Beckkk.

16. Here is a list of the military grade weapons he was charged with having.
Girard, who lived at 23B Bridge St., with his wife and 16-year-old son, was charged with four counts of possession of grenade type explosive devices — including tear gas and explosive pepper ball canisters — and four counts of possession of dangerous weapons which include two police fixed batons and two police expandable batons.

19. Neither, generally. Both, on rare occasions.
As I have mentioned many times before, the gun-control lobby's refusal to differentiate between the lawful and nonviolent, vs. the criminal and violent, is the reason they have over time driven themselves into near-complete irrelevance. The Temperance movement made that same mistake in the early 1900's, lumping all users of alcohol into the "evil and violent" category, and with the same predictable result.

Fine with me if you wish to continue that path, but it won't do a darn thing about violence.

Seriously, is it a surprise? I'm sure if they raided his bookshelves they'd find Hannity, Malkin, Coulter, Beck, and Limbaugh in their ranks.
