He taught me how to cook in a completely different way.

4. When I was in junior high school in the 1960s, home ec. was required
(only for girls in my day, but later for boys as well).

We had to make complete meals in groups of four and invite school staff members as guests.

Now it's considered a "frill."

7. Yep, home economics was the first class of every day in junior high when
I was a kid (late 1970's). Both girls and boys were required to attend. Basic nutritional training was part of that course.

That kids can't id those few basic veggies he showed is frightening. I kinda sorta understand them not knowing eggplant, but tomatoes? Or a potato?!! Wow is right.
