Atlanta's Transit System Changes 'Yellow Line' to 'Gold' After Asian Outrage
Source: Fox News

Atlanta's transit system will rename a train route into the heart of the city's Asian community in response to complaints that calling it the "yellow line" showed a lack of racial sensitivity.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority issued a statement Thursday afternoon announcing it would change the name of the line to the "gold line."

"The expressed concerns regarding the use of the phrase 'yellow line' will be addressed in the most expeditious and cost-effective manner possible," MARTA officials said in the statement.

The move to change the name to "gold" coincides with the demands of some advocates in the Asian community.

"Our thought is, why don't you change it to gold? It's really more of a 'why not?' question. Why not change it?" said Helen Kim, director of advocacy and education at the nonprofit Pan Asian Center for Community Services.

Naming it the "yellow line" was part of MARTA's color-coding the entire transit systems by using primary colors.

"There was absolutely no intent to confer any negative connotation through the use of any of the colors chosen," the statement released Thursday said.

They're building the Green Line in Dallas not far from my house. Wonder what that means.

3. We have a red, blue and green line. The yellow line headed straight into our asian heavy districts.

I think it was just a coincidence.

The color is a yellow, not a gold.* Why not just switch the color to another direction?

Additionally, the real racists live outside that gray circle. They will not allow Marta to go into their counties because 'crime' will come into their lilly white communities. So instead, we have the most congested highways in the Southeast, the fastest growing urban sprawl, and the longest commutes in America.

*Decades of Pantone usage makes me an authority on this.

4. Yes, we have a red, blue, and now green...
I think the next up is yellow for us too. "Gold" seems to not fit with theme though.

7. You're right! Racist are outside the city

while the most liberal area of GA is within the confines of I-285. The area around Chamblee on the Yellow line is sometimes referred to a "Chambodia" due to its large Cambodian population. The area between Brookhaven and Doraville, also on the yellow line, has both a large Hispanic and Korean community. Coincidence? probably so as these areas were white when Marta was first built.

8. Actually, the color codes were created last October.
But I still think it was an unfortunate coincidence. I would have just made a different line yellow.

Before the lines were directional, North, East, etc...

The big point to me is that we have a Huge population with a horrible transit system thanks to our corrupt, racist state Republicans.

9. 12%
is the percentage of the Asian population in Doraville. The hispanic population is 43%. The african american population is 14%. The rest is "white" and "other."

Giving in to ridiculous demands and mock outrage only causes more problems in the future.

11. Neither would it be OK to create a "black line"
to a predominantly African-American community.
