Mitt & Matt

Is it just me or does one look like an older verion of the other?

Am I silly for worrying that a LOT of women will vote for Romney just because he has a great mug?

And will the resemblance make fans of the show "Lost" subliminally feel he will "take care of them" like the character on the show?

Or have I had one too many beers (it's nighttime here, okay)?

8. I have to agree.
For the 4 years he was our Governor, I would look at him and see absolutely NOTHING in his eyes. Complete blank!

To me, what is in a man's eyes is a big part of his attractiveness.

4. A lot of women are, esp. smart dem women.
But I know women who vote on these kinds of things, and yes, it's every bit as stupid as when a guy says he will vote for a POS like Bush because "he seems like he'd be a good guy to have a beer with". :puke:

Sadly, at least a third of the country (the Jay Leno's Jaywalking crowd) vote for president on grounds so shallow you couldn't drown an ant in them.

6. The Main People Who've Had A Crush On *
were men (straight men). They were falling all over themselves about him in that flight suit, so impressed with how he tented that flight suit. So I think to limit your question about a candidate's appeal based on looks alone to women hints at a societal bias I don't consider relevant. In addition, thoughts that women weren't mentally up to choosing a candidate was a major argument in denying women the vote.

7. Nope.
This isn't about sexism. As I said before and you echoed - lots of men voted for POS on equally stupid rationale.

I think there are an equal proportion of both men and women who vote on these shallow, silly things. They may tell themselves that they are voting "on the issues", but they have spent no more than ten minutes total reading articles and are basing their judgments of the candidates on looks, Jay Leno's jokes, and the parroted talking points they hear from their friends.

But the shallow criteria these dumbass men use is different than the criteria dumbass women use. For the men it is 1. Toughness/masculinity/hetero beyond question 2. Not being pretty, but not looking like a dweeb either 3. utterance of select catch phrases like "smoke'em out", "bring'em on!", and "USA! USA! USA!"

For the dumbass women it's 1. looks, followed by 2. an air of authority, tempered with sincerity and 3. strength/protectiveness that they seek.

Why is voting on the basis of looks any better or worse than voting on the basis of some phony flim-flam made-up macho image?

9. It Isn't
and that is pretty much my point. In your OP you only mentioned women and that is what caught my eye. We all know Tweety had a crush on * of the highest magnitude, KKK was struck by his looks as he walked off a train, *'s own campaign manager used the words "fell in love". The description of what caused the infatuation may be given a masculine/feminine (good looking/macho slant, but basically the effect is the same. It might better be termed charisma, which Mitt doesn't have much of, imho.

After an earthquake, even a smallish one, it's good to have a beer.

10. Well, I agree that Mitt has little charisma. But neither does POS Bush.
Edited on Fri Apr-27-07 12:49 PM by Matsubara
(In case you're wondering, I always include POS before Bush's name as a reminder that he is a MASS MURDERER, not just some cute little chimp with a smirk, but anyway...)

But anyway, it's a bit hard to imagine that anyone would vote for POS Bush based on his looks. Eyes set too close together, undistinguished simian face, not exactly ugly, but nothing special.

I think looks do play into it for the dumb man, but macho crapola is a bigger factor, whereas for the dumbass woman, looks and the appearance of sincerity are the bigger factors.

My birth mom likes Bush "because he's a Christian". Always makes me bust out laughing that someone would believe that a politician is a "Christian" JUST BECAUSE THEY SAID SO. I'd sooner believe a death row inmate's tales of salvation...

Yeah, I've had a couple brews. Almost bedtime... No more quakes so far tonight.

11. None Of Us Thinks Any Of Them Have Looks Or Charisma
But we were the discerning minority who knew * was wrong right from the get=go, so noe of his "appeal" had any affect on us. But as hard as it is to understand, it did on others. And they all found him "attractive" for one reason or another. As for Mitt, I believe his "classic good looks" are interrupted by his personality and views. Which is why, I believe, he stays so low in the polls. And as Christians view Mormons with suspicion I don't think you have to worry about your mother voting for him.

If anyone will vote for Mitt, it will DEFINITELY be MY MOM.

13. Every Family Has Them
I had to laugh when my brother (a dem) told me his son came down to breakfast one morning and asked "What idiot could have voted for *?" His wife, (* backer) had to admit she did.
