My favorites are bobsled, luge, and ski-jumping. And who can forget this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJHOefnQZJw

2. Luge, maybe not so much
Frankly, I think they should postpone that event until they can put up a shield or wrap those steel beams with some foam rubber.

There should be some sort of safety device in place.

5. they should AT LEAST allow them to compete WITH men
not sure if ski jumping is like most sports, where women would be siginficantly inferior in performance, though...

6. A woman set the record on the jump the men will be using.
Ironic she can't even compete at it.

9. i agree
it is ironic. and sad.

if somebody is doing a great jump, i don't care if they have a penis or a vagina.

frankly.

19. Women have a physical ADVANTAGE in ski jumping! Check out
the heights and weights for all of the male competitors:

http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-ski-jumping/schedule-and-results/nh-individual-qualification-round_sjm070901qL.html

These guys are all rail-thin! Petite women could absolutely dominate the sport once they attained the necessary skills and experience in competition that the men currently have. Methinks this is a major reason for the foot-dragging taking place in their efforts to compete.

20. could be. there are very few sports women are better at, but this may be one
another is long distance cold water swimming (without wetsuits etc.).

i would presume women, being smaller on average would also have an advantage in being a jockey.

thanks for the info. i figured it might be the case, because why else would they ban women? in most sports, women are inferior, so they are not banned. think football for instance. or wrestling (at least in high school they are allowed to wrestle men).

in sprinting, the top female (with or w./o drugs a la marion jones) couldn't even break the to 500 male competitors.

same with other track and field events, etc.

it sounds like ski jumping, requiring a unique combination of coordination, fearlessness, and the proper airfoil is one of those sports women excel in.

22. But they would compete with other women. And they should. It's stupid not to have women do this.

24. most likely so
i'm just saying IF they are not going to set up a women's division, at LEAST let them compete against men

the reason why we discriminate against men, by setting up seperate women's divisions is because in almost every sport, women are inferior.

if that's NOT the case with ski jumping, why discriminate>?

14. Agreed... There's something wrong with going beyond amatures...
I takes away from the whole idea of world competition. These are kids, etc, who train and have a dream. The professionals have reached another level and don't belong.

I'll still watch some and enjoy this opening night stuff in Canada

25. Me, too.
I have no use at all for the summer Olympics, but I love the winter.

Alaska has seven Olympians, which may not sound like many, but proportionate to our population, it's quite a few. I'm cheering Kikkan Randall in the Nordic events. http://www.examiner.com/x-30684-Alaska-Sports-Examiner~y2010m1d25-Kikkan-Randall-pursues-first-ever-Olympic-medal
