1. I was hoping they'd do a Leonard Cohen song somewhere. |
|
He's one of Canada's greats too. But I thought they might all be too depressing.
She's killing me. Oh man is she great!

She's awesome -- awesome voice, awesome song. I get that she wants to wear a suit but why so big? Ah, well, artists!

But she sure sounded great! Has she recorded "Halleluia"? If not, I hope she does.

God, what a voice!
I loves me some Leonard Cohen, but this song is hers now!
I don't normally think of myself as super-patriotic, but I have to say I'm feeling quite happy to be Canadian right now.
Editing to add: Measha Brueggergosman!! Love her too! What a beautiful diva!

for putting on one of the most enjoyable opening ceremonies I have had the pleasure of seeing. It is probably my taste, but this one was so much better for me than China with all the glitz. This one seemed more real. Having some of the best singers on the planet doesn't hurt either!

28. Honest, it's been hers for quite a while now. Check out the numbers who listen |
|
to this over and over again on youtube. I've posted this three times already, so hopefully all of you know that she knocked this song out of the park a number of years ago. It is her most requested song. I knew when I saw her listed that she would be singing this song. I love hearing her sing most anything, but this is a true classic, sung by a true classic.

Can someone answer me a question as to what is coming next (I'm exhuasted and tempted to go to bed).
Right now the Montreal section of the (around Canada) is on with the step dancers, the fiddle player, etc. When does KD Lang come on? Anyone know what comes after her... (should I try to stay up?)

It was very nice. You will also see famous Canadians deliver the flag - that was neat. I won't spoil who it is. You will also see the mystery torchbearer(s). There is a moving moment of silence, too.

39. She sang at the Calgary Olympics (1988), with the Reclines. |
|
First I had heard of her, long before she came out. I bought her 'country' CD's, but kind of lost interest when she went 'post-nuclear cafe'. Heard her do "Constant craving" on the Johnny Carson show. Then when I heard she had done "Crying" at the Grammys I had to go look for that! I'm not a Roy Orbison fan, and I don't normally even listen to pop music -- or singers, for that matter -- but the thought of that big BIG voice on that song instantly appealed to me (it's on the "Live By Request" CD), and I started buying her stuff again. :)
