(Health) Insurers Post Record Profits
WASHINGTON -- In the midst of a deep economic recession, America's health insurance companies increased their profits by 56% in 2009, a year that saw 2.7 million people lose their private coverage.

The nation's five largest for-profit insurers closed 2009 with a combined profit of $12.2 billion, according to a report by the advocacy group Health Care for American Now (HCAN).

3. Sorry for posting a duplicate thread.
I checked back through two pages of disc. groups and didn't see it, but should have looked futher. It just came through on a medical newsletter I subscribe to. It creeps me out. I hope the dems will get it together to pass some sort of reform; otherwise we're screwed.

6. If we can't have real access to health care, I wish at least they would pass
a law forcing health insurance to be non-profit like it was in the past. They should also force them to keep administrative costs at 3% or less just like Medicare. This would stop campaign contributions from flowing from that sector. I'll bet it could be done at a state level. If enough states adopt these kind of laws, it might drive insurance out of the business of health coverage and have them stick to life and disaster insurance instead. Maybe then we can pass real health reform.
