The future of Progressive activism
Edited on Sat Feb-13-10 08:09 PM by Jack Sprat
I think it has to begin with somehow eliminating private money from our public elections. It's already bad enough that private conservative media influences and persuades gullible people to rail against their own interests and the general good of the people. But, democracy was not able to survive the influence of private money that has financed political campaigns and elections. No matter how you spin it, the citizens can never outspend the powerful corporations. In a fair and democratic election, an equivaocal amount of public money should be divided between candidates for public office.

Ideally, lobbying should also be a criminal offense. By any other name, lobbying is bribery of publicly elected officials. That's how I see things. Powerful corporations have bought our political system. It does not act on behalf of the citizens at large. Corporate government serves its' own needs and ends.

BTW:
Keith Olbermann said it best this past week when he offered that the Glen Becks and Rush Limbaughs receive huge paydays simply to persuade people to oppose anything and everything in the best interest of the general good.
