Neo-Nazis in Germany turned back by crowd three times as large
Saw this headline in my paper today, and my first thought was "Where were we when the Tea-Baggers Marched"?

Not comparing all the Tea-baggers to Nazi's of course, but just thought this was an excellent example of how ignoring the Tea-Baggers, or not standing up to them with numbers allows the mass media to make this into a movement. Being complacement in the face of these wingnuts gives them power that they don't possess.

Anyway...just my thoghts.

1. EXCELLENT POINT
Of course the Tea Baggers don't have the same stigma as the Nazis, yet...

2. If you can't compare all tea-baggers to nazis then you can't compare all the nazis to nazis either
the tea bag movement feeds on much of the same sentiments as the skin head movement. racism, anti-communist, anti-immigration, authoritarianism,
nationalism and militarism. some tea baggers are mislead crackpots. some skinheads are too.

3. If we rely on the "media" to accurately expose
the Tea-baggers, we've already lost.

One thing the media couldn't ignore would be 10,000 people showing up everywhere 5,000 Tea-baggers do.

4. Maybe you need a cool name to inspire people.
Something like the Mad Hatters. Do flash mobs. Disrupt the tea party.

6. Mad Hatters
would be an excellent band name.

If you don't stand up and match these folks march for march, the media begins to allow them to identify themselves as "real" 'Murukans.

The wingnuts have been playing this game for a long time, and the media gladly goes along.

Wouldn't it be nice to see a headline that reads; "Tea-baggers turned back from mall by diverse group of Americans that out-numbered them 3 to 1"?

How long do you think their "movement" would last with a few headlines like that?

5. Similar things do happen here.
When I was in college in Ohio in the late 80s/early 90s, there was a KKK/Neo-Nazi rally in a nearby town. Of course we all went down from my school to protest (we didn't have team sports - protesting was our favorite sport. :D) and were delighted to find only a couple dozen racists (hiding behind cops for most of the march), and THOUSANDS of counterdemonstrators. Almost every house on the march route had anti-racist signs out front.
