Maddow: I Don't Cover DADT Because I'm Gay
From Howie:

Matt Lewis, a conservative columnist for AOL's Politics Daily, says the mainstream media are largely biased in favor of repeal. "Anybody who's paying attention knows that Rachel Maddow is a liberal," he says. "She's basically preaching to the choir. She's not going to have on a gay soldier who did create a morale problem."

If Maddow has an affinity for military issues, it may be because she is the daughter of an Air Force captain. She is writing a book on the military and politics. The key to her approach has not been standing on her soapbox, which would be predictable, but humanizing the issue by featuring men who want to serve their country -- and happen to be gay. <...>

But she rejects the notion that she's explicitly pushing for change: "I think of it more in the tradition of muckraking. A lot of the best reporting since time immemorial has been driven by outrage about things not being the way they should be, by the shock at shameless, lying hypocrisy."

She adds: "For me it's a question of whether you're doing advocacy journalism or not. It's not activism -- you see a lot of that at Fox, using news coverage to inspire political participation." Washington Post

Howie loves to hold journalists who are not straight, not white, and not male to different standards (to say nothing of "overtly liberal"). Remember the problem he had with African American women writing about Michell Obama and wondering whether they can cover her objectively? Black women can't cover a black woman objectively, according to Howie, and LGBT people are unable to cover LGBT issues objectively, either; that's the bastion of straight white guys! The Constitution--or something--imbues them with an excess of objectivity.....that's why they become reporters.

1. Typical
his view supports the very typical view of the dominant group mentality. Minority groups and women cannot perform their jobs dispassionately because they must advocate for the advance of their subgroups, while White men are somehow objective. It is a bunch of crap. White men have an agenda as well, which is to report from and maintain the "status quo" There reality is supposed to be everyone's reality which again, is crap. The more that minority groups and women continue to gain true equality, the louder and most desperate this group of hold outs will become, until they just become irrelevant. That time cannot come soon enough.

3. And I guess this piece of trash thinks he can objectively cover white men, huh?
Since an overwhelming majority of people in politics and in positions of power in our country are white men, I guess he just needs to STFU and stick to reporting on minorities.

He is a white man, right? I'm assuming here that he is.

How in the hell is he supposed to objectively cover conservatives?

He needs to seriously fuck off.

Sorry for the cursing but this conservative is displaying so much hypocrisy that it's pissing me off.
